Cotton Balls on what?

The lug springs.....If the small piece of foam inside the lug is missing or deteriorated, I just wrap the springs using the cotton balls and put the wrapped springs back in. Much cheaper and easier than shrink tube.

Ok Y'all,

I got all 60 Lugs polished! I got up at 6am this morn to finish polishing the lugs. next I'll polish the tom brackets and bass drum leg mounts and bass drum tom holder bracket, and rims. I got all my new tension rods, t-rods, bass drum hoop inlays, claws, and floor tom legs in yesterday. All my lug and bracket screws are all cleaned and ready. Now ill wrap the lug springs, and oil the inserts. I still need to refinish the wood hoops. Then I guess ill be ready to reassemble everything.

I got all the lugs and hardware installed on my BP shells. I wrapped the springs with some felt I had on hand. One of the muffler knob threads was a little boogered up so I had to clean the threads up. i ran it through a tap die.

All the number 4 (worst) lugs are on the bottom of the bass drum. number 3 areon the bottom of the floor tom. Most of the most visible lugs are # 2 and 1.

It really is looking fabulous Y'all!! Eye Ball

Next i need to order a Ludwig Bass resonant head, then restoring the bass drum Hoops. ONe hoop had the original silver sparkle inlay, the other had a blue oyster pearl inlay. I ordered 2 new silver sparkle inlays from jammin sam, along with ft legs and all new (vintage style) t handles. I got all claws and new tension rods with washers from drumfactorydirect.com. I shopped around and found out everyone has basicly the excat same products. I took the best prices.

I almost have the bass drum hoops ready. I got side tracked. My brother is manager of Miller Pro Audio here, and he wanted to rent a drum kit from me for a customer. I have a gretsch blackhawk kit I acquired a while back that I have been getting ready. It had nasty heads on it so i replaced the toms with evans g2. I went ahead and tightened all the lug and hardware screws and applied some tung oil to the insides of the shells and installed the heads. I went and got a drumdial saturday, so I got to play with that. It's pretty dam cool as far as im concerned. I just tuned the blackhawks to the drum dial specs and left it at that. I got $200 for a week. 20 more than I payed for the drums.

Ill be posting more pics of my BP's soon. All I lack now is the inlays on the BD hoops, polishing the steel hoops and installing the heads and tuning, except i need on 5/16 spur and 2 rubber feet for the spurs

I had planed on injecting the glue and clamping, especially since it is so close to the edge of the shell. Armour All is something I have studied at length. It is the absolute worst thing you can put on a car's vinyl top, however, It seems to work well on tires, dashes, door panels etc.... , but then again all armour all is, is dilouted slicone. In west texas it also attracts a lot of dust, but sure does make dried up vinyl look good~!

I'm a new guy here and just want to share what I know that works...

In my opinion, Armor All is not an ideal product. Not all water borne silicone dressings are formulated the same. For vinyl and rubber I prefer Meguiar's Mirror Glaze professional number 40 vinyl & rubber conditioner. Clean the surface with Simple Green, hot water and a brush. Rinse well, allow to surface dry, apply Meguiar's 40 and buff dry with a clean terry cloth towel. Produces a nice, rich satin sheen that does not look fake. As for the drum wrap, if it clean, is not porous nor is it heavily scratched, try using Meguiar's Mirror Glaze professional number 7 show car glaze followed by Mirror Glaze professional number 20 polymer sealant for a finish that is very slick. Professional number 6 is an excellent cleaner/wax if you are looking for a one step product. I do not work for the company, I just have years of experience using their products with outstanding results....

Nice project!
