I always thought this W&A bass drum was pretty unusual.
(I have the original inserts to protect the heads too...they just didn't make the photo)

Richie - that's a very cool old bass drum. Kind of like a 'nesting' drum - I like it
Can you actually use yours musically?
I use mine as a side snare sometimes. It sounds too odd to use it as a main snare.
I'd like to see pics of that 18" snare![/QUOTE]
Yes it is usable but not for everything.
It is good for thick, fatback, swampy stuff.
I thnk I saw that one in the gallery before. Supercool.
And is this one useable musically? I guess it's loud.

I built it as a challenge to finish it. It was started, as a snare with snare beds, by Andy Florio but then he died. The shell sat in a closet in Pro Drum Shop for 30 years.
I found it and finished it with Andy in mind.
Musically??? Maybe for an orchestra setting. Hard to get it between your legs for a casual.
Tuned up, it sounds kind of normal. Like a snare.
Brushes on it are great.
Lots of Real Estate.
I thought I was crazy for wanting to make a custom 16" snare. Now, perhaps not as much as I thought. Or maybe as much, but just means others are too? What wires do you have on that bad boy?
