Fantastic! I love the look of it.
Leedy Conservation Project
new to the site here. ive been on here for a few days just looking around and i really like what i see. im a younger vintage drum lover and i just wanted to say i really like the work done on this kit. i have a 3 ply maple silver sparkle 1964 slingly kit in the same sizes so i appreciate this kit a lot! did you put anything on the shells like a lacquer or anything to seal the wood? These drums also probably sing with no wrap on the outside of the shells. Not a fan of the early 60's mahogony slinger/leedys but i would love to hear this kit.
Inside of the shells are stamped with a P which indicates they were originally pearl covered. While removing the green wrap I found damage to the veneer indicative of a previous, not so careful, wrap removal job. No further damage was caused by me removing the green wrap. I had a local furniture repair business glue down any loose veneer as well as install matching patches in the areas that were damaged.
Thanks for the explanation. These babies would go great with my recently acquired Leedy Reliance snare.
That is gorgeous! I love walnut!

I wanted to preserve the originality of this kit as much as possible so I used a citrus based cleaner to remove the the wrap glue. Needless to say it was more work than if I had gone with something harsher, but I did not want to remove the original wood sealer. So no, I didn't have to re-seal the veneer but the refinisher did seal the pieces he used to patch the damaged areas.
