Kit price?

Anyone know what the selling price was for my kit back in 1958?

My son asked me this morning and I really have no idea so thought I'd ask....

Stands - yes. Cymbals - no. The kit with cymbals would have run about 18 bucks more. Please keep in mind, these are not precise figures. I'm using the Super Classic kit as an example. That came with brushes, a book, wood block, etc. The difference between the kit with cymbals and the kit without was about 18 dollars. The kit ran in the neighborhood of 430 dollars and 460 dollars - hence my ballpark figure of 450.

Gotcha! Ha, an extra $18 that's a hoot!

Is this kit considered a "Super Classic" or something other?

Not wanting to chime in on that. There would need to be some detailed pics of the original mounts and tags and inners and all that sort of muck. Others may wish to jump in ... not me. It's a beautiful kit and one that I would love to sit behind. Great stuff.

If you're reffering to the tom mount its a rail std Ludwig type mounted just off to the side of the bass drum and not the top. The tags all say WFL. The insides of the shells consist of mahogany (non painted) with hardwood bearing edges rings, not sure of the wood type other than to say maple... all are stamped May 1958. The snare does have the classic throw-off.

It's not that simple. There is a disappearing cymbal mount dead center that is not explainable under the Super Classic heading. I really would rather stay out of this one. There's too many variables here to make this a "simple" i.d.

Thanks and enjoy the kit. It is unbelievably beautiful.

Understandable...

But I've gotta ask being a noob, what is the big deal with the Super Classic that make you wanna stay out of it?

Nothing at all. I'm just not in the mood to get detailed on this one. There are lots of members who will chime in. It's most likely a mod SC. But, because of the mods, it can get hairy teasing out the details. That's all. If you want closure ... it's a SC with some mods. That's the easiest answer.
