If vintage drums were vintage cars then what's what?

I watch those Mecum auctions when I catch them and I am also a fan of nice vintage cars, in general. I can't help but equate some of my vintage drums to those old cars. I compare the old, unresponsive suspensions with things like rail consolettes that slip if "driven" too hard....and certain stylistic appointments like baseball bat mufflers are something that looks like it could have been corner-window latch....

Bop kits are, of course, "sports cars" -like Corvettes.

Classic kits like 22/13/16 are like Buicks

Gretsch are Cadillacs

Rogers are Pontiacs -(mainly GTOs)

Ludwig and Slingerland are Fords and Chevys

And all the pieced-together mutts are Rat Rods -lol!Car Driving2

Cool thread! I have to admit though that some of my snare drums might be compared to Ford Pintos or Mavericks. The AMC Gremlin would also be a prime candidate for an old MIJ kit I own!

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

BMW is German ;) WV seems too basic to mě. Mercedes too fancy. Bayerische MotorWerke is just right, imho :)

KDG,

I think you nailed the Rogers/Gretsch analogy perfectly, but missed on Leedy. I think Leedy = Packard, only because very, very, very, few people in the 1930's could afford to buy a Duesenberg (unless you were Clark Gable or Gary Cooper)....
