I have some questions. First, Welcome to the forum. Now, on with the grilling. As Mikey points out, they are late-mid 60s as both Pearl and Star went to 6 and 9 ply shells in mid-67.1) Are the shells all the same?2) The lugs all appear to be mismatched, is this correct?3) If you like, I can make some suggestions to make this a better sounding and more responsive kit. Get a front hoop on the bass....4) Is there any shell seperation or rings coming loose?5) Play the snot out of them, then when you are ready to get them gone, get in touch with me and I can help out with that as well.

1-The 13" tom drum is very similar yet the wood appears just slightly lighter in color inside...where the 12,16 and 20 have the deeper reddish color wood, the 13 is just a slight pale shade different...?

2-The lugs are mismatched as pointed out about the 12" star, but the others seem to match although they are slightly bigger/longer on 16 and 20 compared to the 13

3-I do hope to get a front hoop for the bass and resonant head, and perhaps the resonant heads on the toms (although it sounds pretty cool right now even with the heads not perfectly tuned, but in tune with each other) definately a deeper darker sound, and they sound big

4-little bit of shell ring separation and denting on the bearing edge of the bass drum, and some minor splitting on the inner wood ring against bearing edge of a tom or 2 ( i think i explained that ok, but i am new to all this)

I really considered not getting into this kit, but since i didn't have snare, cymbals, or hardware...i decided to spend my money on those and get a vintage american kit later....so far i found a 70's COB slingerland snare, 70's avedis ride, and avedis 14" new beat hats to fill out my kit. It sounds pretty cool already, but I do hope to find the missing lugs, rings, etc, patch up any wood separations, and then rewrap or laquer (can't believe the price of wraps!)..anyways i just want a nice sounding playable kit and so far it's pretty fun!

For the repair work, you can go to my youtube page and view the How-To vids, there are a few that cover a few of the techniques I developed for myself in these situations. Follow the link in my signature and you can see the videos first hand. No snide remarks about my lack of prowess on the drums please...I am a tech, and tuning is one of my stronger points, although I can't play a lick yet....been doing it a while, like 30 years.
