Recently bought a nice vintage set of Ludwigs. The bass has the cymbal mount that comes out at an angle - the harwdare mounts through the bass wall like a spike would. The style is "New Yorker" model. Anyone with any experience with these as far as strength? I have Paiste 22" ride on it and it seems stable enough but I'm not sure of longterm stress. The set (1966) is made from Mahogany (I think) and should be strong enough. I play out a lot - not very hard music - but rather not ask too much of the mount. Any thoughts?
How trustworthy is vintage Ludwig cymbal mount? Last viewed: 21 seconds ago
It will hold up just fine, I've got a 24" paiste 2002 ride sitting on my bass drum with the very same cymbal arm, the bass drum will hold up just fine!
John Bonham also had one on his amber vistalite kit!
all you gotta do (if you're worried about it) is tighten the H!@# outta that sucker!
Yes Sir
Lol... unless you are tightening the mount to the drum and you have a Vistalite... CRRRRACK.
With all due respect, DON'T tighten the hell out of it; if you crack something, then it won't work at all. Tighten it firmly, & check it often , 'till you feel more confident with it. They work fine, but I wouldn't put a real heavy ride out there. just my 2c.....marko
I have had NO trouble with mine. flowers2

I keep a 22" A. Zildjian medium ride on mine. Never budges. Of course I use my "Drummer's Wrench" on it. Which is comprised of putting the wings of the nut between a pair of drumsticks and cranking it down tight.
it does not tighten to the shell?
just to the l-arm that its holding.
it does not endanger the bass drum in anyway/shape/form.
Here's the mount I'm talking 'bout. I have another set that uses the L-arm. This is through the kick wall mount.
Oh, I see. Well, in that case, I can't comment on that one. I've never used that kind.
