Yeah I have that same mount on one of my club date kits to, I don't think I'll mount nothing but a splash cymbal off mine either, but mine mounted in the center of the shell, yeah can't comment on that mount either! I haven't used mine for that purpose yet?
That's the same mount as my '61 Ludwig and I never use it. I hung a nice ride cymbal from it a couple times and I was afraid to hit it for fear of breaking the kick drum. Way too much bounce.
No way I will ever use it for a cymbal again. I just don't feel comfortable with it at all.
Awww - well I hope I can use it. I really like the look. I imagine it was made for this purpose, no?
Does the cymbal bounce or the cymbal mount shaft flex when you ride it hard? If not I say play it, I would. Great vintage look.
Looks like a good place for a splash, to me.
Ahhh, now I see. Seems to me that the higher you place the cymbal, the more of a fulcrum you create applying more pressure to the shell. I think I'd keep a large cymbal as low as possible on that guy. Or, like others have said, maybe a small splash.
My first set was a ' 65 club date with that same holder.I couldn't dig it and went to a floor stand right away.I could see the bass shell flexing and hear the shell creaking. Not good. You have a plastic wrap and mine is laquer black.Your shell is a bit stronger because the plastic.Keep a weather eye on it.BTW I still have my little black set.
