What if it`s going on a train instead of a ship ?

I cut twp pieces of styrafoam 1 to 2" bigger than the cymbal.

use the cymbal as a templete and cut down about half way threw the foam.

Than cut a 45 degree angle to the straight cut to form a pocket so the cymbal can rest and not shift during transportation.

Than I hot glue the other piece of foam on top of the other.

Than bend my own box from stock card board.

U-Haul sells a nice,double wall "TV/Microwave" box..24-24-20 that you can cut down to 4" or 6" tall,and use the excess scrap for lining this box,or down the road on something else...

I received a 22" cymbal in the mail that was simply put in a home-made cardboard sleeve, not a shred of bubble wrap or any other softening materials, and it arrived just fine. Not saying this is the correct or preferred shipping method to employ, but NO effort was made to protect the cymbal and it showed up, unmolested.

The few times I have shipped stuff, I assume it will be dropped from a height of 4', at least once in transit, and pack it accordingly. So, I say pack it like it will be dropped from 4' and you are good-to-go!

And yes, some are speaking of simply cutting and taping cardboard to make your own cardboard box, that fits the cymbal.

I had a very rare 13" pair of 602 SE hats shipped to me from Sweden once,and the box was only around 2" tall,if that!

I flipped when the postman rang the bell!

They were not broken though..I was very surprised...

Found them just by emailing music stores over there! Price was cheap too...

My friend was telling me about the sorting faclities stuff goes through. Multi-level conveyors dropping boxes upon each other. He said it's remarkable stuff arrives undamaged.

I can believe it. I see how long my suitcases last from travelling all the time and that is basically the same thing. I figure the average human would drop something from about 4' when carrying it, so that is the rule I go by!

I wonder what they do if you put frajilee on it, like if you had a lady's-leg- lamp shipped to your house? They may take better care of it that way, I guess......LOL.
