still tweaking the snare, but loving the sounds from these babies!
Thank you all so much for the help getting to this point.
I followed this thread from the get going,...I`m calling them yours,...cuz you earned them !!
thank you OddBall, I will take that compliment!
I had a brief chance to play them in this configuration and really enjoyed it.
Great range of sound.
Once I get the snare dialed in it will be great(er)!
Oh! There's hope for my set!!! Seeing how nice this set came out has given me hope...those pics look a lot like mine :) I just inherited a late '60s Ludwig double bass set that has been in my family since new...(I'm the third drummer in the family out of 6 kids...my oldest brother finally passed them on to me) and they are in horrible shape. They are silver sparkle as well...in a 12,13,16,22,24 configuration w/ a Supraphonic 5x14 (anyone know what config that was called?) My Brother said they were 1968 vintage....
I am going to be posting some pics later before I get started stripping and cleaning the hardware...the bearing edges need some serious help...they are uneven, some splitting, etc. I may do the splitting repairs myself but I'll have the edges done professionally once they're cleaned/fixed. One or two seem to be a bit out of round as well...I'm hoping heads fit :(
I'm a novice at this resto stuff so I'll be doing countless searches on the bearing/ply repairs and hardware resto...so far I've already found a great deal of useful help...I'll get those pics up soon as I'll need all the help I can muster!!
BTW - did you use anything on the wrap itself to turn back the years a bit?
of course there is hope!
I little determination and love and you'll be playin in no time!
Definitely grab some pics of the damage and start a thread in here, this is a great spot for help that got me through some tricky times.
All I did on the wrap was scrub it clean, and wax it.
Here is how they sit right now:
