Anyone know if the new Gretsch tone controls will fit the old shells? Did they ever change the hole spacing? I have two controls but they are missing parts and thought it might be easier to just buy new ones.
Wow! The stain is a dead match. I can't wait to see the finished product next to the rest of the kit.
The tone control hole spacing is the same. I actually purchased some new tone controls from Steve Maxwell and installed them on some early 70's drums without issue.

Tim, thank you! Here is a pic of the drum with your mount on it. I'm probably going to give it back to my teacher tonight at my lesson and let him buy the mufflers for it. He still needs 10 tension rods plus the two mufflers. I now remember you saying that new ones would be better, I will mention that to him.
I bought some Rustoleum galvanized fence paint to touch up the plugs on the inside but it did not work that good. I doubt we will ever see the drum with the rest of the kit, my teacher is a busy guy. This project should get me about 8 more lessons then Im back on the street. Work is real bad here, wanting to close the business for good, get a job at Walmart or something.
Super nice color match Jeff. You guy is excellent! Touch up paint inside looks nice too. You can always tint it (hair of red n black maybe) to give it the aged tinge it needs. Hard to tell if it's my screen color so FWIW there! Keep the faith buddy and hope work picks up for you. Your quite the craftsman. If you can get your duco paint skills down you'll corner the market. I know it's not a fav to do. But lots of guys looking for it. My son went through the same thing doing tri burst finishes on guitars. He kept at it and can do them in his sleep now. Finish work on drums and guitars can help things along sometimes. Until you score some other cabinet jobs.
Top notch as always. Sorry work is slow. Been there. I'd just grab a job at whatever I was doing at the time and take advantage of the employee discounts to stock up until things improved.

Thanks guys!
Yes, I would like to get the duco's and the sunburst finishes mastered someday. I think I need to get away from the cabinet finishes that I use and learn to work with different products. Maybe this winter I will try again.
Drum teacher was very happy with the drum shell. Now he is considering having me do an entire kit for his son. All the guys at the music store were very impressed with my work, so now I have some local exposure that could lead to more work. You are correct Glenn, I need to look at this as income to fill in the gaps, I think I will take this more serious, thank you buddy!
