Found Some Gretsch Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Hey guys,

A little ID help here.

An old friend of mine hooked me up with a couple of Gretsch drums.

I am not an expert on Gretsch or vintage drums at all really.

I am just learning.

I was told they were bought brand new from Reliable Gun And Pawn on Trade street in Charlotte back in 1967.

I got them from the 2nd owner who has had them since sometime in the 70's.

As you can see they are a little rough.

They are missing some hardware.

The last owner took the wrap off of them at some point.

They do have grey painted interiors.

The hardware I have is mostly intact.

The badges are missing.

My main question is what kind of set would this have been?

And secondly, what kind of tom mount would have been on the bass?

There are a few extra holes in both the tom and the bass.

As you can see by the pic the bass drum has a hole for a double tom mount and there are a couple of extra holes on either side of it.

So would this have had a hole mounted tom holder or a consolette rail?

I am going to try and restore them the best I can.

These are mine.

I'm not doing them for a friend so I will take my time and do them as right as I can.

I didn't pay much for them so if you think they are a basket case and not worth restoring then no harm really.

If I can get them to turn out okay then I'll have a nice vintage Gretsch set to play.

Thoughts? :D

Wrong t rod on Tom...

Set had 2 toms to start with...looks like....

I think I still have the correct BD mounting plate I can sell....

I also have Diamond Plates that would go on the mounted Tom.....

Yeah the tom doesn't have any mounting hardware on it at all.

I would be interested in buying the parts to complete this set at some point.

:D

What do you think the second pair of holes on the bass were for?

Do you see what I'm talking about?

Are they a 22" BD and 9x13 tom (looks like five lugs)? Definitely the wrong t-rod in the one shot, as Blair mentioned. Looks like it had a different mount added/removed, too. Extra hole on the bass may be from a rail; though not sure that's a long enough stretch for one and it'd be off-center, I'm pretty sure.

These look like they'd have been wrapped originally and then stripped and "refinished".

How about the interior tags? They in there?

Congrat's!!

Some put a rail mount on it...after they took the double Tom mount off...

Get with me if you need the parts....

No tags.

They were definitely unwrapped and "re-finished".

My plan is to find a floortom that is a suitable match and either re-cover the bass and tom to match the floortom or the re-cover all of them.

What do the factory t-rods look like?

What is the best way to figure out what model drum set this was?

Soooo, what sizes, cr0w? I wouldn't worry so much about what model. Could've been part of any combo of kits. You'll never know, but you can surmise. No matter what sizes, I'd look for a 16x16 FT and depending on that unit, do as fishaa suggests, in whatever wrap suits your fancy. The important thing is, you're rescuing them.

Best of luck and keep us abreast of your project.
