From FFR428

Drumfactorydirect sells new COB stick chopper hoops. Under $50 made by Cannon. A bunch of other steel and die cast hoops they sell as well. I was very lucky to get a nice pair of old RK stick choppers in a parts buy. They are on my late 50's snare. but yes they can be expensive on EB and I've seen that same $125 hoop for sale for months. LOL.http://www.drumfactorydirect.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6_7_652

Thanks for the link to these. I wasn't aware of them! Hard to tell from only one picture, but the ear profile appears to resemble Slingerland. Sure would like to see some better pictures before plunking down $100!!

Hey all....As I mentioned in another thread,if anyone would like a pattern for drilling the shell,I'll happily send one. (Pattern taken off the 70'-71' I recently found) Kind of an interesting drum. Serial #56419,wide clasp non-notched zoomatic strainer,(no holes), a clear interior without paint, and no muffler. I also wanted to say that I bought a piece of WMP wrap off ebay, and I was very impressed with how well the color matched my 65',69',and 71' snares. I contacted the seller, and he told me it came from drumaker.com. I've also ordered a pair of the stick chopper replica rims from drumfactory,so when they arrive we'll see how well they match up........Cheers !

BTW -- this project is done as far as my work is concerned. The customer has his own rims, heads, and snare wires, so it's going to him just as in the last pictures I posted.

And, famousdave, I'd like to have a copy of your pattern. It would have been really helpful when I did this one. I just went with pictures and information gathered (mostly) on this thread, so my drilling was my "best guess." IF I ever do one again it should be much easier!

Thanks,

Bill

Once again, I know this is an OLD thread, but the customer sent me a pic and I thought the update would be nice. It's not the best view, but at least one of it completed. The customer is very pleased -- in fact I'm building a BR "copy" set (24/16/16/13) to match, all made from 70s Pearl FG shells. I'm expecting the wrap to show up any day.

I will start a thread and post pics.

Once again, beautiful job Bill, you are the master! Looks like fun, I might have to try this someday.

Thank you!

Jeff, thanks!

Without looking back over the threads, I think I mentioned that cutting the snare beds on the FG shells ended up being pretty easy, 'cause all I did was use a sander (actually, the sanding head on my multi-cutting tool). Of course I got this BR snare drum and the Jazzfest for the Ringo kit (other thread) out of the same 10x14 FG shells... so IF anyone has any of those lying around, I'm interested in trading for or buying (if the price is right!).
