And just to clarify further...When we are asked to estimate a value for a vintage drum kit or individual drum (or component), there is really no way to make an exact evaluation because not everyone agrees on the criteria. You, don't use the same criteria as I do, so when you see a kit that's completely matched and catalog-correct, it might not be viewed the same way as someone such as myself, who relies on a different set of criteria.

I only point this out because there have been situations where someone has a kit for sale that may have an asking price that seems out of alignment with a given set of criteria from a given forum member. So, when someone asks a given price for a kit, etc. it might seem outrageous to one person, but it might be in complete alignment with someone else's estimate of value. One of the ways that higher or lower values can be formulated is in terms of "correctness". One of the ways that "correctness" can be determined is by catalog reference. It's a very common tool used by many vintage drum collectors.

The reason for the option on adding the 14 is most likely for melodically enhanced, intonation of the 13 /14/16 it does sound sweet to bring the 14 into the roll

Personally, of the ones I have owned, I have never been enamored with neither the 13" toms nor the 16" toms. Sonically, I prefer a wider divide among the toms. A more "ideal" spread for a working/recording kit, in my opinion would be 10/14/18/24BD (or 26BD)...unless it's a small combo jazz thing...in which case, I still love the 12/14/18BD...

...See? There I go customizing my own dream kit in my head, again...I guess it will never stop! :)

12--14-20 Slingerland drum sets, 13-16-20 Slingerland and Leedy drum sets, 12-16-20 Rogers drum sets all with matching wood snares have always been my preference for four-piece outfits. For a five-piece set, I have always preferred a second mounted tom of the same size. Notice, I don't like larger bass drums.
