Cymbals in a fire

Loading...

Hi everyone. A good friend just had his place burn.(Bummer) The fire department saved the structure, but the contents were trashed. I just tuned his drums 1 hour before the fire and the kit was sounding pretty good. He has some nice older Zildjians and it looks like they were heated up pretty good. Man they look bad (another bummer). He asked me if the high temps hurt the cymbals. I`m thinking the insurance company would like to have someone clean them up and give them back to him. Any thoughts from the forum?

Is there any info that I can get off the net for him to "lay on the insurance people" to convince them that there toast?

The extreme heat does indeed impact them. I moved from the UP of MI down to Miami once and the company stored the cymbals in a ridiculously hot environ with quite a bit of mass on top of them. They came out discolored from the wrapping material. It was an extended period of time. I had video of the before and the after. They were two very very different sounds. I was endorsing Sabian at the time and kept very complete records of the precise sounds. The insurance company made good on it, but I was out some very nice custom cymbals due to the extreme heat and pressure of the heavy items placed on top of them. To some, it might have been a minor change. To me, it was devastating.

Just tell them this:

Roast cymbals are,

Toast cymbals like,

No cymbals you know...

Then they should write you out a check on the spot.
