This is an old 15" Ludwig field drum that used to be a rod tension snare drum but was plugged up an turned into a tenor drum. Now, years later it has landed in my shop to be turned back into a snare drum. Go figure. It has come full circle. Luckily I could see where the original holes were plugged and was able to drill straight through them.
Before
I stripped everything off and you can see the large patches that were used to back the plugged holes. A bit of overkill but okay.
Next I sanded the bearing edges by hand to smooth them out and took the bottom head and put it on the batter side and got rid of the[B] batter head which was a Remo Emperor with about 5 of the old Zero Rings duct taped to it to muffle the drum. The guide pegs for the snare adjuster have been added here. A new 15" hazy snare side head was put on the bottom of the drum as well.
New gut snares were added to the drum as well
And here you can see the finished drum with new ears and the snare adjuster I salvaged from another shell that I have other plans for.
