Hey everyone!
So I picked up a cleveland Rogers kit on the cheap today...and thats because it is thrashed! Missing all reso hoops/rods/claws, and has been refinished inside and out....no badges...some edge/ring/ply issues. The whole gambit.
Luckily, I see this kit for what it CAN be and not what is is at this point. It has no extra holes (except for an additional knobby that was added to the floor tom which may or may not be original. I have seen them before, so Im not counting it out without doing some research.
Sizes are 20/12/16 and the spurs, L arm, AND a single tom arm were all included, so Im in business for a killer restore. I have all the lugs and parts I need other than 12 inch and 20 inch hoops. I have a 12 tall boy if anyone has one to trade.
Tags are gone, but these are definitely 3 ply shells. Beefy lugs, thicker rings, heavy machined hardware...the good stuff.
First up is filling all the missing plys/edge dings and sanding everything flat. Might touch up edges if need be...havent decided yet. Im going to do a lacquer finish on these...not only because of the fact that its cheaper...but I have wanted to do a nice paint job for a while, and this is the perfect opportunity. Also going to have to repaint the insides grey (they are blue and grey over orange. Speaking of which....is there a chance that these were factory orange inside? I feel like I have seen that discussed before.
Thinking of doing custom paper tag or something too.
At any rate...Im expecting this to take all summer, but here are the "before" pics for starters.
Im definitely open to suggestions from anyone who has done a project like this before....including colors. Right now I am leaning towards either a robins egg blue or a super mellow lavender. I have badges too...so it will be pretty classy when finished (hopefully)!
