You are a skeptic. Feel better now?

No I don't. I'd feel better if we knew for sure that this was true and not a possible fabrication for who know's what reason.

Do YOU feel better now??

Let's all of us just step back for a minute here on this one.

Let me ask everyone reading this thread a question. Having read the initial post of the thread, who is the bigger idiot? The guy who sold them to GC for $50....the guy who worked for GC that sold them for $100.....or the guy who read the thread and ACTUALLY BELIEVES that the story is true?

Feel free to rant, rave, flame, post, not post, call me a vulgar name, whatever. I still say it SOUNDS too good to be true.

Call me a skeptic...

I feel better because I complied with your explicit instruction to call you a skeptic.

Excuse me for trying to inject a bit of levity. Clearly I misjudged things and it is a SERIOUS MATTER calling for CAPITAL LETTERS.

I believe it's true, and I do'nt think it makes me any bigger of an idiot.

Hey, why not?... it happens.

How about the person at GC who took the set to sell, knowing, or not knowing what it's worth? I'm thinking not knowing.

Come on guys.......my three year old's sesame street drum kit, with Elmo on the kick drum almost cost me that much. Even so much as a vocalist working in a music shop would know that even a Westbury kit would be worth more than $100.Excited

I believe the guy. What is the payoff for making up a story about buying some drums then coming to a forum and telling a bunch of forum mates which are mostly strangers that type to each other? I don't see much upside for him risking carpal tunnell surgery to fabricate this whole thing.

I used to get Rapala lures for fifty cents apiece at Trader Horn because the kid who worked there was going through the motions collecting a paycheck and probably mismarking them for his buddies to boot. This happens all the time in stores where the employees are just passing by and picking up a few bucks along the way. They get ****ed about something and next thing you know there are bargains to be had! This is probably one of the driving forces behind the barcoding industry, unreliable employees putting price tags on the merchandise.

Furthermore the fact that he got ****ed and told us to pound salt up our derrieres further has me believing him. If he was making it all up for the attention, he would have continued on with the story trying to defend his position. He didn't. He flipped us all off and left. I like the guy! He get's some style points from me!!Clapping Happy2

In summation the guy got a good deal on some drums that will more than likely prove to be less than what he first thought they were, but will still be an excellent purchase at a fantastic price point. Nice job!!

toodles

Ok. Before I post, you have to ignore my user name and pretend it says "SparkleFlam". I told myself I wouldn't get in on this bit, as it reads icky.

I will go on record as saying that GC had a Gretsch Name Band Round Badge rewrapped by Precision last year. They had it posted right at 400. I called and was told they would let it go for 300, as it had been hanging around too long.

What does that mean?

It should let us know that there are serious deals to be found if you search them out and are lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

I didn't buy the kit, as I was not, nor am I, looking for a Gretsch kit. Not a huge fan.

Hanging around too long means that they really don't care about market value on their used gear. They want to make a profit and get it off their books, as fast as possible. I am not 100% sure of this so anyone who knows can call me a liar and I will believe them but I know that some industries pay a tax on their inventories and used gear sitting around for a long time may have some of it's margin eaten away by taxes to the feds. Also their building is only so big.......
