Wow, that is a beauty. Its the same wrap as mine. I have often wondered if mine was worth 1k with all of the holes repaired.

Is this a 20-12-14?

Warning ... Avoid member statuscymbal here, vintage_collector on DFO , and americanpatriot10 on eBay. Email me for his name. All are the same shady guy who has burned me and a list of other members on both boards . He is also selling on Facebook too ..

Two huge differences there , 1 that yours was a Tuxedo set and 2 the sizes . Both of these make a big difference in the value . Apples and oranges ...

Difference, yes, worth a $7000 variance, no. Imo, anyone spending $9000.00 on ANY kit has too much time on their hands. Silliness.

I personally tend to agree with you but to each his own. It’s a rare kit in wonderful condition - would not be surprised if someone paid his asking price and would be equally unsurprised if didn’t. Either way - beautiful

Three pages and the OP seller hasn't shown his face since. Maybe he was scared off. I also think $9000 for any set of drums is insane, unless they were celebrity owned or a one-off kit. Could I buy them? Sure. My practical side would tell me "no way."

I made a call into a Maserati/Alfa Romeo dealership today and was astounded at some of the prices. An Alfa roadster was $156K. The Maserati roadster was $101K, and the girl at the front desk told me people come in and buy them all the time.

This thread is 5 months old, and was recently resurrected by Sleepy57. I wouldn't expect the OP to be hanging around. Meanwhile, the Camco set is still for sale at Maxwells at the asking price of $9500. If it this isn't the same set then it is a very unusual coincidence:

Absolutely NEVER use "BIN" results as current market value for anything especially a undervalued CAMCO bop kit. It’s obvious the kit was truly underpriced and that the seller had no clue what so ever about CAMCO.

From musiqman

I disagree on this. If its sold, its sold. Doesn't matter if its a BIN or Auction. If I read the description, the seller knows enough about Camco/vintage drums to make his price. He just asked what he thought what it was worth. It sold for that price so that is the current value. Value is as good as the last sale.No need to keep up the prices higher then needed only for the sake of nostalgic reasons or the old sky high prices that once were before the internet arrived and people didn't know anything about older drums/sales.

and wondered if they knew it was still unsold after 5 months at the $9000 price level at the time they were arguing about the expected price? Not selling at $9000 after 5 months is usually a hint that it is priced higher than buyers are willing to pay. Not proof, but a hint.

What I do in my pricing research is use completed sales prices whenever possible. If there is a BIN which is unusually low I will filter that out. I have no problem using a BIN result if it is within the expected range of prices. I can spot a BIN which is unusually low because I've recorded thousands of sales and fitted statistical models so I have some idea what is going on. When I'm faced with a price request and I have too little data, I may use less reliable measures. This includes analysis of "non sales", as in the case of this kit. I've been forced to go for that in this example of 24" K Zildjian Istanbul cymbals:

http://black.net.nz/old-k/old-k-prices.html#24

As a professional statistician I have concerns about both extremes: "NEVER use BIN results" and "It sold for that price so that is the current value. Value is as good as the last sale." and would plead for a more nuanced approach which makes best use of the information at hand. Very occasionally somebody buys a 22" Old K for $50 via BIN on eBay or at a garage sale. I don't think any reasonable person would conclude that the expected value of 22" Old Ks has therefore dropped to $50.

I buy a lot of RB Gretsch & Camco drum sets so of course, I'm fully aware the silver sparkle Oaklawn bop kit is still sitting at Maxwell's Drum Shop.

IMO, there's a reason why "its still sitting there" which has nothing to do with vintage Camco bop kits being way overpriced in fact IMO it has something to do directly with that particular siliver sparkle Oaklawn bop kit itself. For example;

1. The silver sparkle wrap is absolutely not appealing at all.

2. Although it is a superb mount the dual Rogers center post on a Camco kit hurts it no matter how good it is... period.

3. Again the two 12x8 toms set-up.

4. No biggie but missing the original logo bass drum head.

Now, I'm not saying my gold sparkle Camco bop kit is worth $9,500.00 or more but IMO it is definitely more eye appealing and is set-up in original traditional Camco rail mount configuration which to me makes it a better candidate to sell, etc.

So my point is you cannot use a underpriced BIN result to gage the current market value as a definitive answer AND you surely cannot use Maxwell's as a gage with a not so appealing siliver sparkle Oaklawn bop kit with Rogers mount that has been sitting since August 2017.

* Also you can thank Eddie Knight for ruining this bop kit by installing the Rogers center mount...

Wow, silver sparkle absolutely not appealing?!? That’s highly subjective. Do you mean from some weird collectors angle? Because personally I would take the SS over gold, and most any other wrap except wmp.

The Rogers tom holder and badge I would agree with you drags down the value though.
