I don't know what water putty is but I've had excellent, long lasting results with plastic wood for edge rebuilding

Glued and clamped and drying overnight. Will fill with durham's rock hard putty tomorrow.
Hollywood, a couple VDF members mentioned this water putty and they had it in the painting section of the local hardware store. The guy who found it for me said he has used it to fix a toilet seat years ago and it was excellent...cheap too! That part tomorrow.
Thanks again,
Brian

forgot the pics...
By the way, I mixed the putty a bit looser than I was planning. The directions did say add a very little bit of water at a time, but as I mixed less than a teaspoon of powder I only needed a few drops of water to begin with not the several drops I added:confused:) No matter, the looseness allowed the putty to fill the narrow cavity really easily. I'm hoping there's no shrinkage while it dries...time will tell.

Hmmmm Good question, Holliwood. I'll check when I get home later & post ingredients. Brian
Concrete. Interestingly, Rock Hard is concrete based (with some additional, proprietary ingrediatns) and not particularly toxic. Well, the repair is done and the stuff seemed to work really well. I've used wood filler for other shell repairs in the past, but never having repaired a bearing edge, I went with this new recommendation...and I like it. Now I have a great new product to repair all sorts of stuff around the house:)
Thanks to all the guidance on this! The repair turned out to be pretty simple. Now on to polish the shell, claws and t-rods before I get to play it. Can't wait!
With much gratitude,
Brian

Strange, I agree, but even the guy at the hardware store had used it on wood. Some of the other products that have been recommended for drum rehab ate equally as strange, diet coke for rust removal being one, so I don't flinch ata recmendation any more. It worked really well too!
Happy Friday,
Brian
