ASBA 50s restoration

Here is a nice restoration than I've realize a few weeks ago !! ... ASBA 50s drum kit... tom tom are in "good condition" but the bass drum was really sick ! The ovalized shell impression is a reality ... I'll spare you all the fastenings & rusted parts, etc. ... because the best is in the down ! oops...

No more doubt after dismantling ... all the plys are unstick, reinforcing rings in partly disappeared, and the bass drum is cut off in two parts !!

Yikes,

The bass is pretty bad. Where are you located? Would be fun to see if that Humpty-Dumpty could be mended. If anywhere near Spokane, WA. Please don't toss it yet. Glue won't do it but a layer of fiber glass might. I like the tough restores.

Any ASBA set is worth trying the impossible in order to preserve it. Thats one of the toughest projects I've ever seen but love can do miracles. Do you have the missing wrap?

Boy, if you do fix it then please share the process with us. That could be the most challenging restoration ever attempted on this forum. I would love to see it and I'm sure I'm not alone. What ever you do I wish you the best!

Hi all !

Some news of this restoration ...

No, the bass drum is not dead, very very sick but not dead yet !!

Creighton... sorry, I'm not located near Spokane, WA ... I'm located in France.

Jccabinets, no problem to share the process with you... All you need is just a curved matrix or curved template (not sure for the traduction, sorry...) to glue and recreate the shell

The hard part is done !!! The bass drum has regained her curves after a few restoration hours

The wood was so damaged, then I had to strengthen the shell...

and the finishes that voluntarily keep his past despite the restoration ... otherwise I would have put an internal veneer...

then the restore all metal parts, and there's plenty to do ! Smaller parts are the nails for badges...

I clicked on the pic of the bass drum and it took me to a picture hosting service, I then clicked on the + sign to zoom in, after that I had a really weird security warning that was difficult to remove. Im sure you did not intend for this to happen but it scared me, I thought my computer was going to be completely messed up.

With that said, I would not click any of your pictures, not worth the virus risk. Why not just attach them to VDF so they will always be there?
