64 Roger's Are about to be wrapped (thoughts).?

Loading...

Gentlemen,

It's been cold up here in Canada / to say the least..

We've had the worst winter/snow/ice/subzero temps/wind...that we've ever had in the last 15 yrs++..

So working/refinishing my drums has taking a backseat..my shop is in the garage.!

Have a cpl questions I've been pondering over for the last 2weeks..

The kit in question is a..64 Roger's Cleveland/Holiday...

Sizes are..

Bass 18"x14"/ Flr 14"x14"/ Tom 12"x8" & a (13"x9"early Dayton) that I'm gonna incld to use as a backup/switchup tom.

Original wrap was bdp/but was removed from the prev owner)

The inlay wrap is present (hoops), gonna keep it.(reuse)..

* Currently its just a natural finish / up close the finish is worn dwn.!

Also, already have a set of 67 Rogers in bdp) so having 2kits the same doesn't do it for me..! (not selling either).

I'm picking up a old roger's snare (@62/63) that has the original WMP wrap/ minimal aging...!

I've asked the seller(of the snare)2 go on Precision's website & look at *White Pearl / *Vintage White Pearl & *Antique White Pearl..

So that I could wrap this kit to match the snare drum..!

(He's an experienced vintage player/collector), So I trust his opinion..

It's the Antique White Pearl..!

Figures its $75 more then the other choices,(buying sheets/cutting.

Question #1..

Should I go with the lower priced ($$) wrap.?

Being that the snare isn't seen from the crowd & the other wraps choices are easier to wrk with (thinner) & a Brighter finish.!

(I'l be using this kit on stage/not Pubs, bigger safer venues.!)

Question #2..

Gluing the wrap vs the heavy duty tape option.?

*Just asking..

Seppo does live about 45mins away..!

Pic is provided of the natural finished kit (far left)..

*I'm not a big fan of keeping it O'naturale..!

Question 1: You have to go with the Antique White Pearl. The Vintage White Pearl is striated and has a diagnal crossing. It's a copy of Ludwig's white pearl. The Vintage WP will look more like Rogers' original pearl. I've rewrapped Rogers basses and toms in both White Pearl and Antique White Pearl with excellent results.

Question 2: It's your call on the rewrap method. I've used both methods plus a combination of the two (bought JamminSam's wrap with the tape pre-attached but then added 3M contact cement to the shell). Some guys don't like the tape, but it sure makes the job easier.

Oh, by the way... beautiful drums! What's your opinion on the sound performance between your Rogers 18", 20" and 22" basses?

Thxs Mchair..

The seller of the snare did say something about the pattern not being in the same direction as the snare's wrap.!! good to know..

As for 18/20/22...bass ?

I've had All / 18/20/22/24...

My all time fav would have to be the 20"...!

low enough to keep my toms low..& big enough not to always have a drum riser..! (18") lolol

A 20" with an Evan EQ4 (no pillows/blankets)..!

Mine you the 22 & 24 were later 9/72 series, but one of my 20" is a 69/70 fullerton (Silver glitter glass) & that's basically the same shell..

Thank you for yr insight & question..

The savings in wrap cost will bother you for years if you don't like the color.

Agreed..

wondering if the Wht Pearl is brighter looking / easier to wrap & save $$.

Just the $$ wouldn't be my only reason..

The Antique does L00K nice

The White Marine Pearl is VERY bright. It's on the lower right and has that Ludwig like triangle pattern to it. Antique White Pearl on the top right (both samples from Precision) and Drum Foundry's Cream Pearl on the left. The Cream Pearl is very tan in color and small chip pattern. Very nice wrap just the wrong color for me. I wrapped a 13" with it and the match isn't very good to my old mellow yellow RK's. So I plan to re do the 13" and a 20" RK floor tom in the Antique White Pearl. It's about the closest match I can find at the moment.

I did see that / $150 I believe / its a great deal..

however the snare I'm picking up is orig / I wouldn't want to strip/rewrap..(although I could / it won't be my style..

Thank you for the idea though..

There is a set of Rogers for sale on ebay refinished in antique white pearl, you might want to check it out. Not affiliated in any way with the seller just saying.
