1961 Slingerland 13/16/22 Silver Sparkle For Sale

Loading...

Well, here's the first one to go. I'll get this all ready and put it on eBay next week. If anyone here wants it before it goes to eBay, feel free to make me an offer. I'll have more detailed pictures and info later but for now, here's a couple pics.

You can read a little about how it was when I bought it and what I did to it here... http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=14963

I have a zillion hours of love and scrubbing into this set but it's definitely a players set and has had a lot of gigs in it's day. If this drum set could talk, I'll bet it would have some great stories.

I spit and polished this baby and she shines under the lights like Ginger Rogers in a sequin dress from those old 50's movies.

I'll do the whole spiel about how I restored it but, for now, most people here know what it takes to do this.

All 3 ply mahogany. Sound fantastic. I don't like Slingerland's rail consolette but this one is, at least working. I like to use a Ludwig center piece. It gets the tom up just a little higher and keeps it off the bass drum. I returned the original Slingerland rail to the drum. I think everything is original including the die cast hoops.

I'll do a complete writeup in HTML and post a link later this week. Meanwhile, if anyone has any questions, feel free.

Between my cost, new heads, ebay/Paypal fees and whatever else, I have about $699 into it. I'm planning to start the bidding at that. I'd love to hear your comments (good or bad) about that starting price.

If I can get that much back out of it and break even, I'll get to keep the snare for my effort /love /scrubbing /whatever. LOL

Here's a couple pics. Check out the picture of the badge. Look at the beautiful sparkle in this wrap. It was a silver sparkle and now it has patina'd to a fine and even Ginger Ale (or, as we say in the trade, it's faded. LOL) Color is very even throughout, though. Most people just think it's a gold sparkle. If you didn't pull a head or a lug off, you would think so, too.

C'mon guys... no comments???

Let me know what you think. I have been very honest and clear about what this set is and what I have into it and what I want.

I know eBay will bring whatever eBay brings but I would like to hear your opinions on what it's really worth. I respect the opinions of the members here. Whether I like what I hear or not is another story. LMAO. Still, I always want to know the truth.

Don't be afraid to insult me. I'm a drummer. I can count to 4. You can't insult me. LOL

I think your starting price is about the most that you're gonna get for these drums. Unjustified as it is, Slingy's just don't seem to command the $. Nice kit - I recently got an early 60s kit and LOVE the mahogany inner ply - rich, warm tone. Good luck with your sale.

How much? Would you be interested in a trade for a script badge Rogers kit in a red glass glitter finish? The same sizes as yours, thanks.

Wasn't there something odd about the floor Tom on that Rogers kit? I seem to recall some discussion about it. Was it wrapped in that goofy thin plastic stuff off eBay?

It's still a pretty good deal, even if it was. Those Rogers sound great. If it was that SparkleBrite stuff, you could always rewrap it. Factor that in to the trade and your close.

Yes, the floor tom was recovered in sparkle brite, it's a players kit like the Slingerland. It's a nice kit and I know Rogers fetch more than Slingerland if they are all original, since mine has a rewrapped drum, I'd say they are worth about the same. I just happen to like silver sparkle Slingerlands, although not the rail mount so much, thanks.

Thanks but I'm not interested in any trades, I need to make room. LOL

Actually, I wish I could keep this but I have way too many drum sets. Something has to give or my house is going to split at the seams. LOL

OK, I'll buy your kit for $500 if I sell mine, what do you think? Thanks.

I know this may be sacrilege, but if you consider splitting the kit up, I would be very interested in that bass drum. I picked up a 12" and 16", date July '61, with a very similar wrap (color-wise). I'm sorry to even mention it, especially since it's such a sweet looking kit, but I'm itching to find a kick for my set. Defenitely PM me if you would like to seperate, or shoot us a heads up on this thread if they hit the "Bay".

Thanks,

Keith
