1960's slingerland (?modern solo?) project. First vintage project

Hey there,

All the tension rods on this kit appear to be the same. I have included a closeup of a lug and t-rod for the 12" and a pic of the floor tom's parts on the table. Magnets do not stick. There is a small flake on the floor tom rim and it reveals a brassy color. Magnets do not stick to any rims on this kit.

I am almost done with the floor tom. I have also posted a pic.

Found a few pieces of paper in a couple of the bass drum lugs. Other than that, no felt anywhere

Great job so far! When you go to put the lugs back on the shells it's a good idea to stuff a cotton ball in each one or cut a rectangle out of foam to put between the spring and lug to prevent rattles.

Thanks, Steve. In one of the pictures, you can see that the cleaned lugs with cotton I stuffed btwn springs and lugs. Would never have known to dothat without reading about it on this forum. Appreciate you making sure that I picked that one up.

That is looking really good thus far. Nice work. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Looking good!

Did you see what I meant though?

It looks like the screws that hold the lugs on the FT are newer then the other drums..still Slingerland though....

The 12" takes a flathead screwdriver....the FT you can use a socket on......

They sold sets like that back in the day..No FT..you just bought it later.....

Definately a possibility that it was purchased at a diff time, but it could just be that I cleaned the floor Tom hardware before these past pics. Lugs, tension rods and screws to hold lugs on drum are all the same for the 3 toms. The screws can all be adjusted with either a flathead or socket on all 3 toms. I wish I could see what you are referring to, but thisnis just my first go round working on an old kit.

Couldn't stop working. It paid off. A few little details to work out with the cracked wrap on bd. Should have not had so much faith in glue to set fast. Other than that, I am happy. Everyone's encouragement and advice made this much easier than I thought. Thanks!

Now time to find some awesome cymbals and figure out tuning.

Shes a beauty! Very nice job you did there, that kit will sound killer once you get her tuned. Gotta love Slinglys!

Thank you!
