Is jammin Sam's psychedelic Red close to the original?

Im thinkin ill put B/O badges and a 73 wrap. I have a 69 standard, 71, 73, 75.76 catalog but no 72. psychedelic Red was original in 71 and 73 mod orange, and citrus mod was in 71. I actually have a pile of classic lugs that came off of the bottoms of my toms and front of my bass drums on my 69 silver sparkle kit.

So will it be acceptable to convert these to 73 with class lugs and the original acoustical interiors?

What is it called? Its not strata is it? It looks like simulated natural walnut or something. Its definatly not a wrap. Are these maple shells?

They are most likely mahogany/poplar/maple shells. Also, it is a wrap, just in very bad condition. I think it could be a very badly faded gold strata, bronze strata, or ruby strata.....someone else more knowledgable with the strata finishes may want to chime in......

Jammin Sam's wrap is not really close to the original Ludwig wrap at all, and neither are their other Mod wraps. They are similar, but side by side, they are not that close at all.

As far as "acceptable" that is more of a personal choice. I find it perfectly acceptable, but others may not, only you can decide.

The finish on these shells are definatly not a wrap. Who ever pulled the badge off of it took a little wood with it. You can see where the badge was. There is a perfect impression of a standard badge that is down to the raw wood. It appears that someone stained these trying to make it look like the strata wrap. I scraped the finish with a knife and it isnt a wrap.

There is a standard tom on ebay this morning in the strata finish. My tom looks similar to it, but it has no clear plastic coating'

Ok, I think i have made up my mind. Im thinking I'll rewrap these with the mod orange from jammin sams. It looks really sweet and was original on 1971.

ALRIGHTY then. That's a good choice. flowers2 I have some tubs (12"13"16"22") ready to go so I might work alongside & do the same in Mod Orange, but I like the glue method better. Here is a MO snare I did, this was actually my 1st re-wrap job(tape).

I also did a snare in the Psych Red from JS and it's 'OK' but the wrap is nothing like the original. #3 is Arctic Oyster from PrecisionNY(glue) #4 is SKYBLuePEARL reissue. #5 is a bologna sandwich.

Honestly, after trying both methods I opted to do a whole kit in the Arctic Oyster (80% done). I like to order the wrap, do a trial run on a snare, then sit it up on the shelf and look at for days, weeks. Basically these snares are the trial run of 'the next kit'.I TRIED on one occassion to order wrap from Sam WITHOUT the tape and he promptly persuaded me into "sticking" w/ his method.Laughing H

Currently working on a 7 piece virgin double bass 3 ply early 70's Ludwig kit to be wearing....MOD ORANGE.

I found a small strip of the original ruby strata on the bass drum shell. The rest of the wrap was removed, but left the stripes behind. Look.
