I think there may be a problem with your hihat stand question. It appears that by 64 Slingerland was offering the 804 in the three leg version ... BUT, for the Gene Krupa kit (which is your goal to date), it stayed with the two leg version for several years to come. So, I would guess that they shipped the Krupa kit with the two leg version until they were all gone. That would have taken several years to clean out the old stock. It's the same with the Buddy Rich kits (80N) of the late 60's and early 70's. Those shipped with the freekin' impossible to find thin spurs - TWO PAIR OF THEM!!! No other kit at that time (that I am aware) had those. All the others had the thicker spurs. That was they way Slingerland (and Ludwig) did it. They used up the stock. That's good business. Anyway, hope this helps.

Yes, I think the problem in using the catalogs to try to date hardware is that they used the same pihotos year to year. They use the same photos of the sets fom 63 - 69. The 1969 catalog finally has new pics showing the newer hardware. Most of the sets show the 2 legged vesion through 1969 but the 1964 catalog has 2 new sets pictured that show the 3 legged version. The "Jet" and the "Modern Combo". So the 3 legged vesion was available in 1964 and like you said they would use up the old stock of 2 legged stands until they ran out.

OK, that one solved!!

Now what about the floor tom leg and mount questions? Again I suspect a similar situation but the catalogs all use the same photos up till 1969 and they all show straight legs. Anyone have a clue when the leg and mount change occured? And did they change to the bent legs the same time as they changed from push button to threaded mounts? Pehaps someone has a date stamp in their floor tom that has a threaded mount and bent legs that shows a date before 1969.

As many have said, existing stock was used up. So, almost impossible to go by the catalogs! As an example, my 1967 Slingy kit uses straight tom legs (no knurling at all) with the t-bolt operated bracket. I really would have expected to see the typical 17.5" bent legs with top knurling on my kit. Still, my tom looks pretty cool with the straight legs!

Kevins, I just took a close look at the pic you sent. I see that that stand has been modified with 2 brackets to hold the pedal. That stand should have the pedal on the other side where the single leg is bolted to the stand. It also would need the top section to be rotated 180 degress. Should be a quick and simple fix!

Oh Kevins, stand it has not been modified at all,the two brackets are the way slingerland did the three legged hi-hat stand, also on his stand were the wing-nut is at the leg should have a spike..Now i do know what year slingerland change the set up from kevins and yours hi-hat stand to me is was sometime mid 60s...Also "cymbal snaps" made by Zild came out is 1991-92,the ones you are asking about may be made by slingerland other some other marker but not by Zild is the 60s....mikey

Mickey, I did catch my mistake regarding Kevins hi-hat. See below:

OOPS! Correction on my part. I just checked all my 3 legged hi-hats and they all have the same brackets holding the pedal. So it is not a modification. For some reason I thought that the section that holds the pedal was cast into the stand. Makes sense though as they can use the same part for snare, cymbal, and hi-hat stands.

Also have you read all of the cymbal snap thread? Here is the thead:

We have pretty much determined that they came out mid 60's and definately not the 90's. Below is a scan of the 1968 Zildjian catalog showing the cymbal snaps.
