Well I have asked 2 questions that must have stumped eveyone as there were no answers! See these posts:

http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=16213

Well here are 3 more questions:

1. What year did Slingerland change from the 2 leg to 3 leg design on their flat based hi-hat stand?

2. What year did Slingerland change the floor tom leg mounts from the push button to the threaded design?

3. What year did Slingerland change the floor tom legs from straight to bent?

Hope to get some answers this time! Thanks!

Mikey,

I have had cymbal snaps on my stands since the 1970's and the add shown at this link dates them back to 1966. I would like to know if anyone knows if they go back to 1963. By the way, I still have and use 8 of them!

http://books.google.com/books?id=Fl6Ie0_Rt8cC&pg=PA70&lpg=PA70&dq=zildjian+%22cymbal+snaps%22&source=bl&ots=V5Ft1aClB1&sig=melxzOZUKoApL08rUpMFKN4MfMg&hl=en&ei=Onh3TOOUMIu2ngfFmOTBAQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CBwQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=zildjian%20%22cymbal%20snaps%22&f=false

Slingerland did make a 2 legged flat hi-hat stand. I own one! They are shown in most of the 60's catalogs. I believe they changed to the 3 legged version sometime during the 60's but, since many of the photos didn't change in many of the catalogs over the years, the photos did not accurately represent what was being sold. Below is a pic of the 2 legged stand in 1963 and the 3 legged stand in 1971. I'd like to know which year they made the change?

The straight floor tom legs are still seen on the cover of and the photos in the 1967/68 catalog, but I do think they were changed sooner. The question is when?

I'd like to get some more definatie answers if possible. Thanks again!

The Slingerland hardware questions really cannot be answered with any sort of precission. Mid 60s is about the best you will get. This was a company that used the stock until it was gone. So, if they intended to change in 63, they may have continued shipping the unit until 66 or 67 just because they had stock. Some will go on record with an exact date, but it's bogus info. Most use the cats as reference. I would suggest you do the same, and allow for any sort of ambiguity to exist. Profit was key to that family.

As far as why no one has answered the questions ... can't say. I personally wasn't in the mood. That's my excuse. School has started and I'm slamming busy with the kiddos. Maybe someone else will step up to help. I will suggest you pick up some drum history books and read ... if you haven't already. Take the cat info with a grain of salt. You'll sleep better.

Please post a picture of your two legged hi hat stand .

I would love to see one "in person".

Thanks

Kev

I regard to your unanswered questions, I suspect no one knew (knows) the answer

that read the thread so far. They have only been posted a few days.

Kevins, Here is a pic of the 3 leg and 2 leg versions of the hi-hat. I have three of the 3 legged hi-hats and one of the 2 legged stands.

mcjnic, I'm not losing sleep over it. I was just curious if someone knew it specifically. I have been doing the research on this site, in the cats, The Slingerland Book, online, and through my own experiance. Yes, I also realize that it took some time for the changes to happen. It's just interesting to see how long they kept old photos in the catalogs even if changes where made years prior.

I'm just tying to get my WMP Krupa kit as accurate as possible to what would have been sold in 1963.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for those... I'm curious as to how it looks under the pedal.

A shot like this would help me......

I have an incomplete stand, and I'm trying to see how the pedal would attach if I did some creative "remodeling".

Thanks

Kevins, I just took a close look at the pic you sent. I see that that stand has been modified with 2 brackets to hold the pedal. That stand should have the pedal on the other side where the single leg is bolted to the stand. It also would need the top section to be rotated 180 degress. Should be a quick and simple fix!

OOPS! Correction on my part. I just checked all my 3 legged hi-hats and they all have the same brackets holding the pedal. So it is not a modification. For some reason I thought that the section that holds the pedal was cast into the stand. Makes sense though as they can use the same part for snare, cymbal, and hi-hat stands.

I wonder why they changed from the 2 leg to 3 leg design? Hmmmm
