Possible Ebay scam.....

Loading...

I sold an Atlas cymbal stand to a buyer in California, or so I thought, yesterday. Turns out its some kind of overseas purchasing agent. I think its a huge scam, so beware! I've opened a case against the buyer to cancel the transaction as it violates my terms of the sale and have reported it to ebay but have heard nothing from anyone, buyer, ebay, or otherwise.

Here's a link to the buyer's profile with all of their OTHER ebay IDs listed!

Sounds fishy and illegal according to ebay's rules if you ask me!

I've relisted the item and if I do ever receive payment from this "person" I will immediately refund the $$ as I want nothing to do with any kind of foreign brokers. My auctions state specifically that I will only ship to the USA. I don't want the hassle with customs or foreign buyers anymore, domestic buyers are enough of a pain lately! LOL!

Oh, and here's a copy of the Ebay message that I got yesterday AFTER the auction ended from the buyer:

Dear ludwig_fan,

Hello, we have just auctioned off your items and we have a little favor to ask you.

Can you please make sure the shipping package has the eBay item numbers on it?

It would be much appreciated if you numbered the packages when you are going to separate an item into more than one boxes.

(e.g 1/2 2/2)

Last but not least, please include all correct items that are shown in the picture and/or your description.

Thank you.

Sounds a bit fishy to me, so I immediately reported this to ebay and have heard nothing.

And, no, the low end price of the stand has nothing to do with it. Its more the fact that I've had zero response from this buyer and have not been paid on it yet. Granted I think I could've gotten more for the stand even considering its condition (which is not that great) but still this is not the reason why I'm upset.

I read this whole thing as the shipping terms are the entire reason this company is in business. They provide an American shipping address for people who want to buy something but the seller won't ship to their country. Pretty heads up business idea IMO.

I don't see the scam element here at all. You don't ship until they send payment so there really isn't any way to get scammed here. They send the money, you send the stand then they resell it and make money off of your stand. If you did ship to the other countries, the guy who they are brokering for probably would have paid you more for it to begin with.....lol.

have a wonderful evening

Uh...He already relisted the item with the reasoning as "non payment by winning bidder". They won it on Saturday, didn't pay as soon as they won it, I guess, and it is back on the market on Sunday.

I just don't see where this outfit did anything wrong on this auction at all. Honestly, they probably have the real gripe in this case IMO.

Every one of these stories validates my choice to not use EBAY, ever.

Ditto VM2K...I sold 2 stands to this buyer a couple weeks ago. Carson, CA shipping address, quick play, instant positive feedback...no problem. Ideally I would prefer to keep my vintage drum stuff in the US, but after listing these stands 3 times I was ready to sell to anyone.

Well, that is my reasoning. I refuse to send OUR HERITAGE out of the country. I STRONGLY believe that it SHOULD stay here. Let the Japanese keep their Tama and Pearl stuff over there....you know, the stuff that they FLOODED the market with and pretty much brought the American drum market to its knees?

Not once did they contact me BEFORE bidding to state that they were proxy bidding on someone elses behalf from a foreign country. That is just out and out fraud and misrepresentation if you ask me. And the last time I checked, it used to be against ebay's rules. This is as bad as the people from other countries that email and ask to bid as they have a "friend" with a USA address I can ship it to. Sorry, I won't do that either.

BTW, this was a sniper bid last couple of hours too! So I had no time to cancel and react to it as I was not at home at the time of the auction's end.

I'm so disgusted with ebay lately.....so much so, that I've yanked the re-listed stand and EVERYTHING else I was listing. Once again I am done with selling on ebay. I'll buy, but no more selling. The listing fees are cheap, yes, but the FV fees and the paypal fees....its rediculous! I've just had enough of it....the never ending will you ship to (insert non-usa country here) questions, the why is the shipping so much questions.....I mean come on, I use calculated shipping.....you want it cheaper? Move closer to where the item is! Then there's the can you take more detailed pictures questions.....I can't count the number of times I've done this for people, emailed them and everything and then the person NEVER BIDS on it! Never even a thank you for the pics, but its not what I'm looking for, nothing. And its usually on stuff I'm selling with NO RESERVE with a LOW starting bid too! DOH

Ok....I'm done...I'm off the Soap Box
