I'd love to disagree...the last four model 1400 stands I have purchased have come from guys who know their vintage drum gear! One being a local Ludwig collector who sold me two for $65 each the other two being from a music store called starving musician for $45 each. By the way these things are mint!(And the rarer ringo version). Thats great if you would like to disagree...but the last couple wfl snare stands I've seen can't even sell in the $15-$25 range. Also the last two wfl model 1121-3 Hi-Hat stands have sold for $27 and $40. By the way Kevin aren't you the guy who was trying to sell a red top Ludwig seat for $150 with a tear in it?? What did you end up getting? And a listing of one of the sets this Ludwig collector I got my stands from is below...he KNOWS vintage Ludwig and all I collect is vintage Ludwig gear!(You would think I have a clue)http://cgi.ebay.com/1969-Ludwig-5x14-Supraphonic-Snare-Drum-/280521395288?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item415060cc58#ht_500wt_920And I think this is pretty honest!!!"You might be able to get even more for the cymbal stands...those are pretty hot right now."
Gee Drumbum, I picked up my late 60s model 400 in similar condition for a heck of a lot less than the $399 that cat is asking....
You do realize that auction is for the SNARE ONLY, .......don't you ?.......:)
And, this is the text from my original For Sale thread from 11/17/09 and a link:
"Ludwig Oval Drum Throne $100 plus shipping
Very good condition, one 1/4 inch crack in upholstry
No rust, adjusts properly, both small rubber feet are split,
big foot missing, seat wobbles (they all do)"
The throne didn't sell for $100, although two thrones like mine had just sold on eBay.... one had an undamaged seat for $150 and one with more damage to the seat than mine for $125.
I lowered the price to $75 and added it to another For Sale thread, which is the thread you responded to on 12/30/09.
(Sorry, but the throne part of the list is deleted, I took it out after it sold.... you can see where I edited the thread in May.)
I believe you PMd me at that point, asking if I would offer free shipping with the $75 price, and I declined....... I should have taken you up on that, cause it sold for only $52 plus shipping on eBay a little later on.
I do recall sending you a courtesy PM on the last day of the auction since you had showed an interest in it, giving you a heads up that it appeared the throne might sell for even less than you had offered.... but I guess you missed it..... bummer for you, I guess.
So, yep, the market told me that a Ludwig Script throne with a 1/4 inch tear in the seat on that day was worth $52 plus shipping.... not the $100 or $75 I thought it was, even though a throne with a larger tear had just sold for $125.
And, yep, Drumbum, this thread tells me that your recollection is wrong today about the price I listed the throne for.
I admire your enthusiasm and fervor in obtaining the lowest price possible for everything you buy. But the prices you say you pay seem to always be far below the going rate.
And this typically comes up when someone has something to sell around here, and is asking for an estimate on their gear. I don't ever recall when you have quoted a really low estimate on the value of an item, that anyone has corroborated it with a similar price.
Why is that, anyway?
