1942 Ludwig WMP Wedding Box

Well, recently I got some new neighbors and the lady of the house grew up in Chicago and it turns out that her father worked for Ludwig from 1935 until the 1980s in some capacity.

Today we were having a little holiday fun at their house when she comes to me with a little box that her father made for her mother the year her parents were married. It appears to be wrapped in Ludwig WMP with blue sparkle and gold sparkle trim. The inside bottom and cover are WMP too. All tacked together with little tacks. The handle on the top appears to be a muffler knob.

She mentioned a story that her father didn’t really like having noisy drums and such played around her house, but he did get her mother a pair or two of drumsticks to use to remove the steaming hot laundry items from the water and to help put the laundry through the ringer on their old washing machine tub. She spoke of the Damen address that she remembered.

She said I could share this with you folks here on the forum. Below are some photos of the wedding box.

You folks would know better than I, but I too thought it looked like crushed glass in both the blue and gold. It appeared to have all the other surfaces painted in what is now a cream color. Did Ludwig paint the inside of their drums this color at that time?

One other thing, this gentleman worked only for Ludwig his whole life with just a stint during World War II in the service. He was very dedicated to his work. His daughter mentioned she might still have some payroll check stubs and stuff that her father saved and would look to see if she could find them. She said she remembers the stubs had the WFL type of logo or something like that.

MIKEY777 - Thanks for the answer about the paint!

She mentioned she had a gold part that she stumbled with the name of, but said she thought the name started with an L and when I said lug, she said “yup that’s it”. Then she followed up saying that her dad said it was somehow related to the Beatle’s as far as she could remember. I don’t think she has that lug anymore though. She was a teenager when she received it and didn’t realize then the significance it might have over time.
