70's Slingerland Gold Sparkle Kit / Opinions?

Loading...

Hey everyone, I'm new to this here forum! I just picked up this kit a few days ago, it's in really good shape. I purchased it from a local high school for $550 here in Chicago. They bought it brand new back in the early 70's, 2nd owner, whoo!

Anyways, the kit was pretty filthy and the heads needed replacing. So after 2 days of cleaning and polishing, I just re-headed the whole kit and it sounds beyond incredible.

Sizes are 22, 12 (not pictured), 13, and 16. Should I re-paint the hoops? Check it out...

I'm not sure if they are re-ringed or not. It does have the reinforcement rings, I was under the assumption that they were maple. I really can't tell though...

Early seventies would be maple interior/poplar/mahogany exterior with solid maple reinforcement rings for a wrapped shell.

Do you know where I can buy gold sparkle hoop inlays? Also, do you think having new inlays would look too "new" up against the original wraps on the shells?

This is what is confooosing me...the interiors of those shells look mahogany...which would suggest an earlier era....but the badges are silver/black Niles.....(???)

precisiondrum.com sells inlays

I'm not sure if they are re-ringed or not. It does have the reinforcement rings...
