Ok with all the MIJ stuff and all the American companies stealing ideas from each other why has the speed King never been copied or at least the idea of how it works .. your thought fellow drum addicts..

Mid-70's Sonor and the Premier 252 are compression spring, too, but very different. Is a Speed King a clock spring, like a Ghost? The other two are coil springs mounted vertically in the post.

I knew about those but none of them ever were really very good so maybe the ? shou;ld be what makes the speed king so good. i have tried a ton of pedals and i just can not get any of them to play like or as good as a speed king. and now that i am playing one bass drum for the first time in 40 years i can not bring my self to get a double pedal because it will not be as good as my old speed kings....

Hey, Mike, you know what after no time flat you'll be just surprised how quickly what you and the speed king can do together, the music you're into now does it require a double pedal??

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

No the speed king is a dual compression spring, one in each post. The ghost is the only pedal I know of to be a clock/recoil spring.

Its all in the makeup of the geometry of the pedal, its pivot points, the arc, etc. Also the cam offset on the plungers are unique to the speedking.

Some of the music does yes but more than that some of the licks and fills i have developed over the years require a double pedal and of course when i solo i use double bass drum alot but if i can not find a double pedal i can work with i will just have to get creative with one foot.. :) it just amazes me just like swivo hardware does that it is still so good after all these years unlike me .. LOL

It's an interesting question, since most other innovations have been copied or quoted. I can't recall another double post compression spring set up. Perhaps some patent vigilance on Ludwig's part?

I do want to speak to the quality of the Premier 252 vis a vis "none of them ever were really very good" . Although a single post compression spring the 252 was a goodie and still has adherents. Times I played one, it was comfortable, sensitive etc.

cheers,

Patrick

Sorry patrick what i meant by not really very good was that they the other pedals were not very good as a copy of the ludwig many of them are great foot pedals in their own right.. :)
