That's a tough question to answer. I have to believe that if I came across a NOS kit, I would pay a couple of grand for it. The snare? ouch Seems a bit high for it, but how rare is it? The issue here is this...I play the stuff. If it's NOS and I purchase it, I'm gonna whack it. So, for me, that snare is a bit high. I'm not a display type guy. I'm more likely gonna pop that snare several thousand times a day. For a collector, it's most likely worth it.

I personally know the seller of this snare drum, i have sold to him before, he sells top of the line equipment, and has a knack for finding the impossible stuff, and i am sure he is firm on the price, it may not sell fast but it will sell for, or very close to the asking price,,:D

You gotta figure, the minute you rip that plastic off, the vintage value plummets. It would be like taking a thousand dollar check and ripping it to shreds. I just bought a player Supra for $200; that will have to do. :)

---Apart from the fact that the price is far above what I'd want to pay--- If I were to buy this drum or other NOS drum in the bag, I just could not avoid the temptation to rip open the bag and play it. I haven't had a brand new 400 since 1965.

Well, that's a tough one! I already know what a COB Supra sounds like, so if I had one that was NOS, I would probably tend to keep it that way -just to keep the investment value. Now, having said that, I would NEVER pay that kind of money for such a drum. I would have to find it in an attic....or maybe a barn! ;) If it was some strange experimental type of drum that no one had ever heard before, THEN I would probably have to try it out, though. Like, I would LOVE to hear what that handmade wooden drum set the boat builder guy made, sounds like. But, yeah, if I found that NOS Supra, I would probably just build an alter around it and take pictures of it -stuff like that! Burger Kin

The only new drums I've ever had were my first set (Crown) in '69.

I'd open it and play the crap out of it. I'm just not a drum collector - it was meant to be played. Jay Leno drives his classic one-of-a-kind cars around on the streets and gets nicks in the paint... you can't take it with you.

Sure they sound great, but I'm personally tired of metal snares.

I hear you. But, for me....like I say...I have heard that COB Supra sound before. It's no mystery to me. It's a great sound. But the sound can be had with drums that are already "devirginized" so-to-speak. For a collector, the "power" of a drum like that NOS is in it's condition -not its rarity....because it's not really considered a rare drum. But condition-wise, it's literally untouched...primo...top of the moutain...brand-spankin' new! You don't get those golden tickets like that everyday. And I feel that's the power of such a drum.
