hey, wonder if someone has some info about 50´s oval badge pearl.

sizes are 20" bassdrum,12"tom,14"snare,and a 16" broadway floortom(with no skin or lugs in the bottom)The finish is blue pearl(a silver/blue)don´t know what the finish is called.Have tried seeking information a lot of places on the net,but with slender results. Are they worth anything?,and what about that broadway floor tom ? I think it´s from the 50´s as well .....

Folks always attribute the oval badge to the '50's, but I do believe in the history section of the Pearl website the catalogues clearly show them to be 60's drums. My udnertsanding has always been that the name Pearl didn't even come into being unti the mid-late '60's....they just built and badged stencils prior to that.

The Black Diamond Pearl-wrapped stuff is worth maybe $200 in good condition. Looks like 3/4 of a '60's 'Valencia' model to me. If it had an original floor tom maybe it would be worth about $300.

The Broadway tom looks to be English to me....it may be the nicest shell in the set, but as an orphan it is worth probably no more than about $100.

Jaye, I think you are right about the badge and the date. I have a kit with the same badge and from what I've heard that badge was available on student kits in the early 70's...

I curious what drum would be more of a student model, the single lug down the center ala clubdate, or the usual standard lugs for each head....

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Good point Jaye- although you`re incorrect about the Pearl brand name. I have played and seen a number of Pearl branded drumsets from the actual 1950s. They began actually with Pearl brand drums in 1946. I can rustle up some photos if you give me time. That oval Pearl badge was introduced in the 50s but I have a 1967 Pearl snare with the same oval badge. I have seen that badge used as late as 1972 brand drums. The 1969 catalog pictures the Pearl Valencia catalog kit with the oval badge- but my own actual 1969 Pearl Valencia drum set has a completely different badge. It`s like they put them on almost at random as long as it said Pearl it was fair game.
