pearl oval badge 50´s drum set

I think he said it is 20-12 and snare, with the Slingerland style lugs, I have to say I like it, since it is BDP, and he has that kit is Norway, it has to be worth more. The lugs, to me, suggest mid-late 60s.

From yestang75

bass drum 20" with tom and mount

This one looks like a 66 or 67 from the tom holder- Valencia I believe. Very nice but too bad about the missing floor tom. Here `s a 1966 catalog page- these are not Valenica`s on this page but they have the same tom holder.

Osaka...I'd actually love to see some 50's drums with that badge. Pearl has updated their history section on their website...too bad, the old design was much better. But I remember seeing that oval badge in '68 catalogs.

Their page also notes that the importing to US began in '57. Again, am wondering if these were actually Pearl-badged drums being imported, or just stencils. It's unclear from the Pearl site.

The Valencia model was always a double-loaded lug design, was it not ?

Thanx for all the info !!! I´m really happy that you take the time to find it out.

the drums are one ply,but as I see on the cataloge, the hardware is the same.

these drums have really been a mystery to me.It´s a shame I don´t know the history to these drums, since they have been in lofoten here in the northern part of norway.I will check out the drums some more and add some more pictures so we can be sure....

Jaye, I will search for them- I can also get my wife to search in Japanese a little bit. Basically, you can be pretty assured that as long as there have been Pearl drums there have been badges of some kind. The Valencias have always been single lug models but I am not clear when they started making them. The earliest Valencia I have ever laid eyes on was a 67. I`ll report back when I cansinger

I have some other questions regarding early Pearl sets:

1. Did Pearl make Valencia sets after the 1960s? Or was the series discontinued by the 70s? (Were there any single lug drums made in the 70s?)

2. Did any of the Valencia sets, or any stencil sets with single lugs, come in sizes other than 12/14/20? Did they ever make 22" BDs or 13/16 toms?

3. Did both Pearl and Star make a single lug (Clubdate style) line of drums?

By the way, I love the look of the set! I hope to acquire a BDP 12/14/20 set of some type someday.

Pearl had very mid-60`s looking Valencias even up into the 1975 catalog. I don`t see them in the 1979 or 1980 catalogs at all. On auction here I have seen a very Taiwanese made Pearl brand Valencia that looks sadly like an 1980s ordinary Pearl cheapo with a plain opaque white wrap- very unimaginative styling- I would assume it was a mid 80s kit. There was a Star brand single lug (Ludwig CLub Date copy) set in WMP on auction here these last 2 weeks. Valencias did not offer alternate sizes in the catalogs only 12/14/20/ and wood snare 5x14.

Challenger is next level up and I just bought a 75 Challenger 22" tonight in silver sparkle- so Challengers were offered in alternate sizes apparently.

O-Bop, would you go back and grab those pix of the Star kit and post those for us? I am rather a fan of the Star and would love to have a reference so that I can search for them. and I know Ralf will as well. Thanks!
