1963 Shelly Manne set (9x13, 16x16, 14x20, matching 5x14 snare drum in Black Diamond Pearl). They came to me a few years ago in pristine condition except for some well-worn batter heads with Henry Adler New York stamps on them. I also have a circa 1956-57 Shelly Manne snare drum in Pink Glass Glitter.
I would like to see more Leedy drums...
Cheers
I just picked up a NOB 6x14 Leedy "Multi-Model" made for the very rare Marvel strainer (1924-26?).
Unfortunately, the snares and bridge are missing since about the 50's, I'm told. Because of the way the strainer worked, theses drums have no snare gates, so the hoops are identical except for the Leedy logo on one.
It's complete with no dents in the shell and is in the process of getting cleaned up now. Pics to come later, I guess.
Back around 2010 an old jazz drummer, who was a friend of mine passed away. His daughter passed on his original set to me. They are my favorite drums to play. His first drum was a 12”x15” ,4712 Ludwig and Ludwig parade drum ;which he converted to his floor tom. The set is an all original New Era 6”x14” snare 5312, 8”x12” tom(no date stamp) and 14”x20” bass 5408. I call them my pearly gates set. Hopefully my pictures don’t go sideways…
Could our host please rotate my pictures? Thanks
Nice to find the forum is back up.
I got these a couple weeks ago. 1965 Leedys. Nice clear date stamps on the inside of the drums. Looks like Slingerlands except the lugs are Leedy.
Base drum head has Slingerland logo, which I think looks way more cool than Leedy logo, so I have a new Slingy decal coming to go on the new bass drum front head when it gets here.
These are pretty clean for their age. There is no fade in the blue sparkle anywhere on any of the drums. It came with all the bottom rims on the toms and the original snamre drum.
One odd thing (or three odd things) is that only the snare drum and bass drum have badges and vent holes, but not the toms. OK, one more odd thing. I have never seen snares held on at one point on each end.
