I see the collets. I was trying to be facetious and snide at the same time. When you have the absolute best tom mounts to have ever been devised, why would you put your tom on a snare drum stand? Are you just missing the arms for the tom holders? Please let us know why you're not using the collets?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Don't you see them? I love that early collet set-up. I have a few and use a straight arm in front of the tom collet for a splash cymbal.Congrats!DZ

Thank you DZ! I am in love with this kit. As you can see I am now searching for bass drum hoops.

I really love the bow tie lugs looking like old fashioned tee handles.

Hi leedybdp, as you see in the forefront of one of the pics, it came with a swivomatic arm as well as a generic L-style cymbal arm.

I did attempt to use the swivo arm in the collet, but was giving fits, so I just got nervous and racked it.

Thanks for your keenness and scrutiny, what’s cool about the kit is it has 3 collets on bass drum. As my snare wasn’t originally part of the kit, there’s no collet. I will look for a splash and a telescoping stand for my ride, and get the tom mounted as well.

I’m out of town for the weekend I’ll show more cool features of the rest of the kit when I get home tomorrow - stay tuned.

I have a few questions:

Are those tall boy hoops?

Does anyone repair bnb lugs professionally?

Does anyone know if bearing edges were originally painted in grey or black speck with rest of interior, or are they wood color like normal making plies visible?

Also what can I get pitting off hoops with?

Hi Romulus!A beautiful find! Thanks for sharing!-Mark

Many thanks!

The tags are perfect to excellent condition and they paint a fascinating story. Did you look at the floor tom head?

The seller said when he bought the kit from prior owner, the man said with conviction “whatever you do, don’t remove that head!”

I’m afraid to say, for immediacy, I put a Pearl by Remo pinstripe on the floor for now.

Here’s some pics of the floor this might be a cocktail of some sort but don’t know with one that has 2 knobbys s/n 9544 black interior.

It has the 17” long legs and the bottom hoop is pitted and clamp bit.

Bottom Remo head is stamped “Creative Music Whethersfield, Conn”!

When I first went to inspect the kit, moving shells, I noticed the floor was rather heavy.

When I looked at the outside, aside from knobby leg fasteners, it had 2 additional knobbys - one high and one low this (one with two holes or two way.)

Fast forward to taking the kit home I did further inspection and saw the interior has 3 rerings.

Two near bearing edges and one in middle under tag.

I am currently cleaning the entire kit completely.

For shells, I used Dawn lightly damp to wipe down first then Novus 1.

I have a set of Vintage Ambassadors and just ordered diplomats for resos.

I stripped everything except the mufflers on the floor and snare, they weren’t budging.

I wanted to show you all the floor tom knobbys and tom collet that came out nicely. I left them in same position in before and after pics.

You know, I once thought I could clean my Phonic kit complete like that in a couple days, I know better now. It totally revives them.

Hi OddBall, So your saying that you are happy you did clean detail on your Sonor? Did you underestimate the time or extent of your detail? I completely understand, with your project, you can take all the time you need just to make sure it turns out right, I bet it turned out nice.

I have been taking my time with these. I started off detailing the 13" 16" and snare leaving the bass and the other 13" MG script tom alone (this I may have to do by itself or seek a pro). I wanted to make sure that I didn't damage anything, especially shell or wrap wise, and it has been successful up to this point which makes me happy as a lark.

I have been collecting all necessary parts to make it ready to play, and pretty much done with that. Now I have the bass stripped and ready for detail.

- stay tuned!

I am proud to post a few pics of my complete and successful detailed 50s Rogers Cleveland Holiday in ‘Sparkling’ Mardi Gras finish per the ‘57 catalogue. Initially, I thought it was sunburned and hued yellow but apparently this was a finish different than simply Mardi Gras finish in the ‘60 catalogue.

What makes the yellow hue, is smaller bits of foiled sparkle, not confetti bunch up more densely around than the 60s MG. The latter MG from my Script tom (not pictured here, but in an earlier post) is more black and less dense with sparkles, though there is some.

I used quite the family of product as I called and spoke to vintage and pro drum shops. They were very willing to help. From there, I took a consensus of what was recommended. I even topped off every bearing edge with beeswax for smooth over and coat, as well as white lithium grease for tension rods.

The kit is warm sounding and is ready to swing!
