No, I had a beautiful 71 black panther kit a few years ago 12,13,16,22, virgin bass, wrap was perfect except a small scuff on the floor tom, everything was excellent, clear interiors very nice edges. The badges were early without serial numbers but the original owner scribed his sin number on all badges, it always bothered me and I sold them.

A pox upon the person who removed the badges. That person probably made a good deal of money by selling them to some Ludwig nut who wanted a "collectible" drum set. I think that this cannibalism reduced the value of the drum set by at least one third.

As everyone else has suggested, my vote is to pass on this. You made it clear that you want these drums as a "collectible" kit. The badges are gone, so it's no longer collectible. For an excellent players kit, they'd be fine as-is...and you could install some aftermarket badges...which come without serial numbers.

Example. I recently purchased a 1965 Slingerland Modern Solo set. The wrap on all the shells is bad. Since I plan to keep the set...and not concerned with resale value...I'm going to re-wrap them.

I passed on the Ludwig set last night, and two hours later I found a near mint 1960s Gretsch set! Burgundy sparkle, Jasper shells. Guess where the money went? ;)
