Paul McCartney was right...

I haven't been in a rock band in 10 years. I've been drumming for a contemporary jazz big band for the last 7 years. Last week I agreed to an audition for a local rock band in need of a drummer. They gave me their set list and had me pick about 10 songs. I worked on them all week

and went back to playing matched grip. One of the songs was quite challenging, 'Crash' by Cavo, at least I thought.

Well the audition went very well and they asked me to join!

So, I guess I've still got it at age 64. :)

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Your big band training enabled you to nail the audition imo. Your discipline and attention to detail would be noticed right away.

So at 64, are you the "senior"wise man of the drums!!

Hit like you mean it!!

Thanks for all the kind comments!

I do love the big band playing very much, but until this Covid19

thing ends or improves somehow, we won't be rehearsing.

I gotta feeling that could be a while.

I will have to send you a tee shirt I have that says "Old Dudes Rock Harder". I always thought that folks who played jazz or other styles made better rock and show drummers. It has something to do with the feel, especially with shuffles. By the way, I will be 68 the day after Christmas.
