Updated analysis: So are the older K Zildjian Constantinople cymbals where there are just two sales in my database for the 18" diameter. One was a 2135g where the seller had been advised by "experts" to ask $10,000. It eventually sold for $742.40 after a few relists. This was back in Dec 2016 through April 2017. It took a long time to sell. I blame the "experts" who got the seller all excited. The other cymbal was a light one at 1134g and it sold for $1742.17 back in Feb 2018. That one took a week to sell and had 34 bids.

And that, in case you might be wondering what it sounds like, would be this one:

That's the one and only thin Constantinople K. that I've ever seen or heard of in this lifetime! And he had to pay what would be the typical price for a 22" Istanbul K. new stamp just to get it too.

That has to be the largest dollar per inch ratio ever seen in all of cymbal-dom!

So stick that into your data-base and analyze it.

Yes I did. And that one was even a thin jazz cymbal; the one and only I've ever seen of of that type. The others in that thread were all orchestral paired heavies. And don't forget there was that legendary pair of 22"'s from the 1930's movie. Just think of this: nobody today makes orchestral 22" cymbals anymore. What a shame; even Avedis Zidljian gave up on them.

That thread was the one that inspired Dr. Bong of Cymbalholic days to make a cameo appearance; and then was never heard from again.

Updated analysis:Since there are a few 18" cymbals around at the moment I've updated my stats. I also found a recently completed Walter auction (June 21st) which ended with the cymbal being "no longer available". I hadn't done the data processing yet. He was asking $1440 for an 18" IIa weighing 1223g. This one is in the weight stats below, but not in the price stats because we don't yet know what it sold for, or even if it did sell. Part of the fun of "no longer available". The other odd thing about this auction is the title of the auction says 1230g, the text says 1225g, and the picture of weighing says 1223g. I've gone for 1223g in my records. That makes it 4th lightest. https://www.ebay.com/itm/K-ZILDJIAN-ISTANBUL-PAPER-THIN-1230g-OLD-STAMP-18-034-RIDE-CRASH-CYMBAL-c45-49-/293617275247Updated weight stats are:For 18" Old Stamp cymbals less than 1800g (n=41)median weight 1378g with half between 1300g and 1470glightest 3: 1164g, 1175g, 1221gFor 18" Old stamp cymbals at 1800g and above (n=7)median weight 2035g with weights going from 1803g to 2330g. Note that it might be better to put the split between heavier and lighter 18" cymbals at something like 1700g or 1600g than 1800g, but I haven't had a fresh look at that. And remember that I'm just looking at Old Stamps in this discussion. Intermediate and New Stamp cymbals are another kettle of fish. You notice the 2499.00 is struck-thru...on the feedback page.....Think crossed-out means it wasn't the sale Price

https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/feedback_profile/daytonabeachdrumcenter?filter=feedback_page:All

US $̶2̶4̶9̶9̶.̶0̶0̶ (Best offer was accepted)

Seller offers best offer on everything

I dunno I doubt it

New stamps pretty common. The only thing unusual with that one -and it's minor- was stated "very clean"..

- unless it was owned by Jon Christensen or some other famous person It'd have to be a very "hard head" to pay 2499.00 for a New Stamp 22 at any weight

US $̶2̶4̶9̶9̶.̶0̶0̶ (Best offer was accepted)

Jeez! The controversial K Zildjian sagas continue unabated!

I watched a couple of videos where some guy who is the head of cymbal making at Zildjian was talking with John Riley about vintage style cymbals....but all that happened was proof that no one is even really taking the challenge to make old style K cymbals seriously....at all.It was a shame what they had come up with. The cymbals they showed neither sounded nor looked like vintage cymbals. The hammering actually looked STUPID! It was some kind of spiral pattern....ugh!

I know I've heard all the explanations that no one knows the secrets of the now-dead master cymbalsmiths and so there can never be those old K style cymbals anymore -(which is what makes the market for the existing authentic old ones goes crazy).....

....But, again, I just can't believe that there's not a person on Earth who couldn't figure out how to make cymbals the old way...right down to making an old style hammer or whatever tools that were used back then. And then just start making those cymbals again. Price them at the top of the line....but just frickin' MAKE them! People can make accurate copies of anything else, but old K style cymbals are somehow exempt. I love them! I want them! Make them again, Zildjian!. Fire the current head of cymbal making if you have to...but stop making dumb cymbal lines that nobody wants.
