I think what happened in the case of that 18" old stamp is simply that as bidders became aware of that sound example and listened to it, they came to the realization that this cymbal wasn't everything that they had expected or wanted. Unfortunately this seller cut his own throat by posting that. Had he not done so it would that cymbal would likely have sold for at least $400 more than it did. It was good sounding but usable only as a crash. It was unsuitable as a ride, so in a sense is was only 1/2 the cymbal it should have been. Therefore is was completely appropriate when 1/2 of the bidders bailed out of the auction and it consequently sold for 1/2 the of predicted price. Reminds me of a song by Stone Temple Pilots.

And the bid retractions- were they before the File?- nonetheless- in the right hands ( not the soundfile's hands..)-- would be fine left side.

Someone got decent deal.

"It would have to be the last cymbal left on earth"

Maybe that's what the seller is hoping for..Good..luck..

Yes I did confirm that. The YouTube video went up on Jun. 26th, and then bid retractions immediately followed:

The first on that same day, the 2nd on June 28th, and the 3rd on Jul. 2nd.

Also the demonstration video was p*i*s*s poor. The cymbal was choked, the playing sucked and the sticks were too heavy.

Looking at the bid retraction summary all three bids were retracted on July 2nd (strange). The sound video was there well before that. The dates you posted are actually original bidding dates. It also appears that one of those who retracted their bid actually rebid on July 3rd and won the auction.

O.K. good detective work. One of the guys got tempted back in again.

I didn't even know there was a sound file myself until Joe pointed it out.

My previous post is not entirely correct. All three bid retractions occurred on July 2nd but the first one was in the morning, by the leading bidder, which effectively put another bidder in the lead. That bidder retracted in the evening followed by the next high bidder about 20 minutes later. The first bidder to retract then rebid on July 3rd and eventually won, saving himself several hundred dollars. Did he/she know the two bidders behind were not serious and were possibly just "pushing" his auto bid up?

So, it's even more complicated than any of us originally thought. It's a case of a series of carefully planned maneuvers, jockeying for position, and of intrigue; all worthy of a Sherlock Holmes. And that sir would be you. Excellent work, my good man.

I agree that its overpriced. And it never ceases to amaze me how some sellers like this one, think that somebody's going to be willing to plunk down 2 large for a cymbal that they can neither hear before hand or return if it proves to to be unsatisfactory. Ain't gonna happen.

It's not going to happen; a guy will buy 5 Bosphorus or 5 AK's before.. It's unfair to drummers to ask crazy price.. Put it at a $1 and see where it goes. Don't sit for years on the big price It's denying someone making music playing gigs on it.

Wait. nevermind. They are no gigs.
