Good work! Really nice drum too - always strikes me as quite a contemporary fade design considering its age too.

Thanks - this was a fun project. No rebuild of any kind needed. And thanks again to the forum for tips and advice.

I have the original snares but updated them for use.

The l’il guy sounds great!

+1 with Creighton. Also the date stamp and M stamp can be easily removed so be careful as that is part of the drums provenance. 3-ply shell with mahogany interior. The M stamp denotes that the outer ply is Maple. The thick center ply is poplar. Serial looks to be 5275 and aligns nicely with Jan '63 date stamp. Mid '63 the interior ply was changed to maple so yours is one of the last with mahogany interior.

Looks great! And I really liked Creighton's advice to just clean and wax the exterior...nothing you could have done would have made it look better! I would have gone with his advice to not seal the interior, as Slingerland guru Brooks Tegler has cautioned me, but no harm.

Somewhere in the thread is a comment that moisture would affect the ink. Or something.

That’s why I used the bees’ wax. So it’s not really sealed except for that.

That's poor advice about leaving wood to absorb moisture. He may know tons about Slingy's but knows sh*t about wood care. I can show you page after page on this site about cracked rings, separation of joints, separation of layers and on and on.
