I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

My mind might be changing since I saw these for sale this evening. The seller sold a Ludwig Sky Blue Pearl set a while back and it took him nearly a year to dump them. I see the same thing probably happening with these. He's asking $1750.

The comedian Steve Martin used to say he recalled going once to a magi who told him the wise words "Never no wait.. it was Always"..exact quote was : "I studied with the Maharishi for many years, and really didn't learn that much. But one thing that he taught me, I'll never forget: 'ALWAYS...' no, wait-- 'NEVER."

It's not like I have $1750 lying around doing nothing. I'd have to take money out of an IRA or my stock portfolio at this point. Either that, or sell my beloved Les Paul Standard, which isn't going to happen. Those are very nice drums and I'd love to buy them, but...

Given this seller's track record, I'll bet those Gretsches will hang around on CL for quite a while. The Ludwig set he had started out high priced and he eventually dropped them down to $1100. Besides that, I'm REALLY running out of room. I love the silver sparkle finish. I haven't seen many Gretsch kits in silver sparkle for some reason.

I don't think you need anymore drums, it looks like you have enough to open a small drum shop. I'm sure your wife, (If you're still married), would agree.D' Drummer

Very surprising coming from you. You never have enough drums! band2

I'm selling the Stewart set, BTW. I also sold a half dozen guitars over the past few months to fund drum purchases.

I was having a conversation with a music store owner in the Midwest this past year about a set he had for sale. He told me it was a consignment from one of his best customers. This guy had 125 drumsets! He and his girlfriend owned a duplex house and he kept his collection on the other side of the duplex. I can't imagine having 125 sets.

At the highest count, my collection had thirteen drum sets. My wife and I were empty nesters with a four bedroom house. One of bedrooms was my drum room. We decided to relocate in 2013 to a city 250 miles from our large house. I began to reduce the size of my drum collection for our new cozy cottage for two. I sold a couple of the least favorites. I also did some trades of two good drum sets for one great drum set. As of a month ago, the collection was down to five drum sets and one cocktail set. I prioritized which sets were the keepers, and which two I would trade for one great Rogers set. That's what I did. I now have four regular drum sets and one cocktail set. I still have kept every vintage A Zildjian cymbal I've owned since the mid 1950's. I now have enough cymbals, pedals, and stands to set up all of the drum sets to be gig worthy.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Ha, I have one kit, two snares, three cymbals and two pairs of hi-hats. That's hardly a collection. I've never owned more than three kits at one time. Ya, I've had many, many kits, but I either trade or sell to get something different. I'm not a "Gear" guy, I don't like having drums sitting around just to be admired.Cool1

Every set I have has been gigged, so nothing just sits around. I rotate sets depending on my mood. The DW set gets used with the Clapton tribute band, for instance, as it has a painted bass drum head. The vintage sets are used as I see fit, depending on the room.
