From DrumBob

Well then, what do you call what you do? Do you honestly expect us to believe that you don't go looking for drums for the purpose of flipping? That appears to be exactly what you do, and you've been doing it for years. I can understand if you have everyday financial needs that force you to sell drums, but is that the case? Look, you can do what you want, but nobody else here has the turnover you do. There's nothing wrong with buying drums to flip, but to say you don't, well, I find that hard to believe.

I call it being savy, I'll usally find a good or decent deal on a vintage kit, from a trade or buying it. I can't afford or even want more than two kits at a time, so I'll sell or trade a kit to get something different. I usually don't make much of a profit if I sell a kit, most of my kits have come from trades. Now, I have bought a few kits over the years with the intent of flipping. Every once in a while a deal pops up and if I have extra cash, I'll take advantage of it.

Jr how do you master a kit you don’t keep them long enough to learn it’s nuances ? Just wondering the more I play my kit the more I feel the grove

just saying you most likely would become a better drummer sticking with one kit for a while

Maybe I’m thinking you have not found your dream kit yet when you do it will be a keeper

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Mark ... the admin/mod would be me, as David is on hiatus for a bit with family obligations. For that matter, It's 99.9% me that handles the forum as it is! That's why David pays me the BIG BUCKS! I appreciate your sentiment here, but nah ... this thread isn't even close to having me intervene. The two Texan's always seem to have a go at each other, and this one is mild .. meaning .. they HAVE indeed remained relatively civil! If it were to completely deteriorate to the very bowels of civility .. or is that the colon of civility?! .. I would have to take control. This is fine, and as you made mention, opinions are held dear, and very passionate. Makes for very fine and entertaining reading, as long as it stays within the lines! THANKS as always Mark!Tommyp

Hi TP! Thanks so much for weighing in on this!

When I trade it's usually for a kit with the same sizes and a lot of times the same company. So, I may trade a Ludwig with a 13,16,22 for another Ludwig in the same sizes, but a different finish. My normal set up is 13,16,22 or 20, although at the moment I have a Ludwig Classic Maple, 10,12,14,20 and the Gretscherland, 12,16,22. I'm trying to sell the Classic Maple to buy another or I'll trade it for a vintage kit. So, although I do change kits a lot, they are all pretty much the same.

I appreciate that we can all have different preferences in life. If not, then we'd all be driving the same kind of car, living in the same kind of house and dressing in the same kind of clothing. Granted, there ARE places exactly like that, already, but I'm glad this isn't one of those places!

This place would be boring without all you characters! :)

So johnnyringo sells a lot of kits? Other guys have a lot of kits and never sell any. I could ask that guy how many kits does one person need? How many can you play? Don't they all sound the same? And so on, but is it really my business? That's what that guy likes to do, so what's the problem? Good for him. And I say good for JR. He keeps things interesting, and hey, I might make a deal for one of his kits someday!Cool1

Anyway, one divergent opinion has brought this thread to 12 pages, so bring on the divergent opinions!Yes Sir

You get a rim shot for that zinger.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
