I can appreciate that being from down under the subject of American baseball is a major yawn to you. And of course it hijacked this thread from its original purpose which was inappropriate. However, having been on this site for 10 years I can honestly say that the overwhelming majority of threads stay relatively on track and that this one is an exception. Since you've been here since 2008 I hope your experience is similar.

Giving that most posters here are probably living in the US, and this time of year the US baseball championship is being decided, perhaps you could cut us some slack for diverting this thread off topic.

Thanks,

Mark

To try to merge the two topics:

Wow, that kit was so overpriced you'd think it were a Yankees player from the mid 2000s. Someone should call it Jason Giambi. Or Jacoby Ellsbury. Or AJ Burnett!

Or, how about...Wow! That kit is so overpriced I'm surprised it's not being sold at a Yankee Stadium concession stand!

(Lets Go Mets!)

Sometimes a thread gets hijacked because it goes so long it gets boreing and needs something to bring it back to life. In this case it's baseball. I suggest you watch the movie Field of Dreams, maybe then you'll come to understand what baseball means to us Yanks, (Pun intended).

Ray. People will come, Ray. They’ll come to Iowa for reasons they can’t even fathom. They’ll turn into your driveway, not knowing for sure why they’re doing it. They’ll arrive at your door, as innocent as children, longing for the past. “Of course, we won’t mind if you look around,” you’ll say, “It’s only twenty dollars per person.” And they’ll pass over the money without even thinking about it, for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they’ll walk off to the bleachers and sit in their short sleeves on a perfect afternoon. And find they have reserved seats somewhere along the baselines where they sat when they were children. And cheer their heroes. And they’ll watch the game, and it’ll be as they’d dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, they’ll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come, Ray. The one constant through all the years Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It’s been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again. Oh people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come.

Unfortunately that quote will be lost on anyone who is not a fan and hasn't seen the movie

I know baseball is as American as apple pie and hot dogs and those who haven't experienced growing up in America will never understand what it means to a lot of us.

Every time I watch the end of Field of Dreams when Ray asked his dad if he wanted to have a catch, it would make me tear up, reminded me of when I'd play catch with my dad. We never had a lot to talk about, but we could always talk about baseball.
