That's right. The reason for that "woe" is due to the fact that, subsequently, those catalogs are the only "official" reference we collectors have to use. Anyone could have ordered a kit in virtually any configuration. That's absolutely a fact. And many people did just that. Ludwig, however, decided to make up a few of their own configurations and name them. These named configurations are the ones that collectors strive to get. Some of them, like the Super Classic kits, were so ubiquitous, they are still comparatively available. But, other named configurations, like the Jazzette kits, became extremely rare to find in any kind of good or original condition....because there were so few of them sold to begin with.
The Jazzette that I would love to find would be a 1968 Thermogloss mahogany kit -a very late model when they had discontinued tucking the wrap into the scarf joint. The Thermogloss maple kits are lovely, too...
