Vintage Ludwig 3-ply, 12x18 Bop!

From zenstat

Vintage Jazzette kits come up for sale about three per year on average (38 in 13 years). Orphan 12x18 bass drums come up less frequently. So it's possible. I got my kit in Feb 2004, which is when I started tracking sales. I used to do things the wrong way around and get interested in price research after I bought something. ;)It's very early Blue/Olive with serials in the 760,000 range. That's an older snare (1963) and I've since acquired a matching Jazz Festival dated Apr 13, 1970 thanks to Mike Layton. I've also got a Supra date stamped Dec 19, 1969. So I've got the Supra if I'm being a catalog purist about what snare "belongs" with a Jazzette kit.

Ha..I had my bedroom painted in the same type, swirly blue...

I had a nice mahogany JAzzette set..no snare..no extra holes etc..listed on eBay..maybe 15-20 years ago..only went for around $950..I recall!

Yep, that long ago, hardly anyone one was even looking for them. Like K.O., I, too, thought those little kits looked funny and I scoffed at the idea of owning one!....a long time ago.... For whatever reason, vintage bop kits started to become THE thing....especially Gretsch! But literally every brand of vintage bop kit, now, is at the top end of the price scale if there's no funny stuff with them...(which there often IS). I don't know if it's because of the practicality of having a small kit to move around for one nighters, etc. Or, if it's the cool "sporty" look of them...Or, that the sounds they make fit in with the current musical applications...Or, ALL of that and more!

Such a great thread and I need to go back and re-read a lot of these posts, but I just wanted to let you know one popped up on Reverb and I snagged it. A 60s 3-ply 14x18.

No extra holes, but some damage caused by a hamfisted badge extraction. Needs rods and claws and a badge. Just bought a single lot of 16 rods and claws, and a badge in the 129,000 range, which I think is fair considering the painted interior.

My 68ish 8x12 and 67ish 14x14 in Gold Sparkle have a new "Jazzette" playmate. Wrapping in Gold Sparkle to match. Oh and I have a matching 67ish Gold Sparkle Super Classic snare :)

For Zenstat: $500 USD

A 60s 3-ply 14x18.

14?! Blasphemy!....you obviously haven't been paying attention.

I have one too. 14x18 60's Keystone in red sparkle with no mounts at all (untouched for the very first time).

Just don't call it a "Jazzette", people get touchy about that sort of thing.

Kidding, guys! ;)

Right, I guess I won't have a Jazzette. I'll call mine a Jazzy-ette.

I had a 70's silver sparkle set with granitone interiors until this past year. I loved the set but just wasn't playing jazz around here as it has practically become extinct. I sold it to wood and weather drum shop and they have it for sale if anyone is interested. The color is really good on it and it sounds fantastic!

Right, I guess I won't have a Jazzette. I'll call mine a Jazzy-ette.

Way back when (this debate has been going on for decades) someone (I forget who) suggested calling the set configuration with the slightly deeper bass drum a "Jazzaire".
