Here's the completed Pearl H-820W hi hat stand. Looks pretty good...and works perfectly. Just a little rust here and there that would not come off, but still clean and shiny overall!

Total monetary investment? $6.75 for the large felt pad and chrome washer for the cymbal cup.

Instead of starting on the second hi hat stand, I'm going to clean up the snare stand that was with the Big R kit...a Pearl S-800W. Here it is all disassembled. I forgot to include the two large wing bolts, but they are there! Time for more Dawn detergent and aluminum foil!

It is amazing what cleaning and care will do to an object. They were so dirty and some rust. They will be great workhorse hardware for any drummer who needs that!

Many drummers with other brands of drums often play Pearl hardware. They and now Gibraltar, sort of own that “random drum hardware” market. And they both are of good quality. I had plenty of Pearl stuff over the years. But once eBay came along I was able to find more of the weapons-grade 900 series stands. I got one with my big blue kit, and it held the 8 and 10 inch toms over the top of my hi hat without wobbling. Now I have a bunch of them and although stupid-heavy, they are bomb proof.

I chose one time at Jacks (80's), ...Pearl or Yamaha,...I picked the Yamaha over the Pearl even though the Pearl was less $$$

You couldn't Nuke this thing....But you could lower it way more than the Pearl. Almost snare height.

I've never owned any Yamaha stands, but always thought they looked great! I really like your pictured stand...and the fact that it is single braced and not double-braced. All the stands I'm cleaning are double braced and it's just too much work to clean them! I guess the answer is to not let them get this bad to begin with. But, in the case of all the hardware that was with the Big R kit, we didn't have that luxury.

That's the same kind I had. It's early/mid 80's. I miss mine because I have a set up now and using the original non SONOR HH from parts unknown that I got. I want another one.
