Is that 167xxx with black/brass badges or black/silver badges? Either way the super set-o-matic would not be factory with that serial. Perhaps you are not concerned with 100% originality. The super set-o-matic is better from a players perspective. Something looks a bit off with the WMP unless the seller happened to get the perfect lighting. Lots of big drums, pricing is in the ballpark.

Sure looks like a very clean kit to me! As slingerfan pointed out, the Super Setomatic is not factory. The badge on the snare drum appears to be black/brass, but it could just be lighting. Still, one big give-away that this is a black/brass kit from the late 60's are those "torpedo" key rods on the bass drum. That's assuming they are original. I'm guessing they just might be.

Concerning the Super Setomatic tom holder, the bass drum bracket was normally mounted more towards the front of the drum, where the current badge is located. The position of the bracket on this kit suggests it used the standard Setomatic holder.

Without more pictures, and badge type and serial number, it's difficult to make an final assessment. I will say that as-is, it does appear to be fairly priced. See if you can get more pictures. It's a lot of money to spend without knowing EXACTLY what you're getting!

Jeepers! I shoulda looked before I posted my exact copy of this set for sale too!!!

Those drums appear to be too white. I believe they are rewraps. Super Set-o-matic would be mounted toward front, like Mark said.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

We know that Remo drum heads are a creamy, off-white colour. The heads in the pic up top have a blue-ish cast, therefore we know that the drums are more yellow or creamy than they appear in the pic.

But note.. For the first year or so the Super Set o matics were supplied with BD mounts slightly to the rear of centre... exactly as this one is...

In fact my own kit is identically mounted to this kit & supplied with a SSOM. After feed back from unhappy players & dealers, they positioned the mount forward. (Of course and in retrospect , they may have just been using up pre fitted shells).

Cheers

John

Black/brass badge and serial 167xxx is consistent with '67/'68. The grommet does appear to have been tampered with and seeing a close up of the WMP I am even more suspect of a re-wrap. As stated earlier the super set-o-matic is a post factory addition. The snare does not appear to be one of the upper level offerings. More pictures/info needed to make an informed purchase.
