I took the kit to my drum room to get it ready fir a gig this Saturday night. I put coated Ambassadors on the toms and a black dot I had lying around on the kick with a felt strip.
I really had to tighten the bolts on the rail to keep it from moving, luckily I have a Ludwig wrench. I'll have my snare stand handy if it starts to move at the gig. I had to tune the tom a little higher because having it on the mount chokes the tom. I've never had that issuie with Ludwig or Rogers drums when using their tom mounts. I think it's because Slingerland/Leedy drums have a rounder edge than Rogers and even Ludwig.
Here's some close up shots....
Looks great, and I'll bet it sounds just as good as it looks to. Have fun showing them off on Saturday.
You could try a lock washer on that tom mount to really lock it in.
What's a lock washer and where can I find one?
Any hardware store will have them. They are simply washers that are cut and the ends no longer meet because they sort of coil up. Place it on the nut side of the bolt and when you tighten the nut down, they compress and the ends meet again, and hence, they "lock" the nut to the bolt. That's the best explanation I can give. Super simple.
Bring the nut and bolt with you and the store can give you the right size.
Thanks, I'll go get one tomorrow.
Never was a Sucker for BDP,,,, But that kit is something special !!.
Cheers

The Black Diamond Pearl wrap that Slingerland and SlingerLeedy used for their drums in the 1960's has a larger random pattern that incorporates more shades of grey and silver with the black tint. It is more lively then the typical BDP wrap that most other companies use. My first professional set that I ordered in 1961 was wrapped in Black Diamond Pearl from Rogers. I loved that drum set. But, I like the Slingerland BDP wrap more.
